That sounds like a great idea.  I'll add it as soon as I can.  I'm on the East Coast for work right now, but I might be able to do that update from here.  If not, I'll probably get to it next week.

Bsteves,

Maybe it's just too early still, but anyone besides Zeelander, PolePole, and myself going to do AOTY this year?  I'm starting to wonder if only NorCal transplants are in to this.

Sorry, I've been "lurking" on this one, watching to see how it developes before jumping in.  Wow!  It looks like some REALLY tough competition, but yeah, I'll do it too.

If at first you don't succeed....  maybe skydiving is just not for you.

Polepole,

I hate to lose my best chance EVER for a free kayak, but you might ought to stipulate that prizes will be dictated by the number of entrants.  You know, use your one free kayak to get your best political (recruitment) leverage.  It just seems like if the prize is HUGE compared to the size of the field of entrants... it starts looking like an elitists club.

Again, your call Pole.  And again, I don't really mean to piss away my best chance EVER to grab a free kayak.

Chicken and egg problem.  At some point I just need to take a leap of faith that we'll get the numbers.  I think I've already made that leap, so sign yer ass up.   ;D

Oh ... there is also full payout of entry fees for the AOTY tournament.  At 15 anglers (number pulled out of a hat), thats $600 which is enough for me to buy a kayak at wholesale prices.  So I have some room to play around with how this pans out, in other words I have some negotiating power to "do the right thing" for sponsors and participants.

Polepole,

Okay, just so it's really clear... I think I know the answer, but I gotta know for sure... No fish caught in B.C. will count, right?  Only Wa. or Or.?

Yup, just so we're clear, I think we'll limit it to WA and OR this year.  No fish caught in BC for this ... the one event of interest in BC (Moutcha) will have it's own prizes.

Okay, I'll try and remember to modify the internal rules in the application so that it will only add up points from WA or OR fish.   However, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't upload your AK, BC, or ID fish.. we all like looking at pics.

You've probably noticed some sponsor logos popping up on the site.

Today I heard from Lamiglas that they are donating one of the rods from their kayak fishing lineup to the AOTY  ... http://www.lamiglas.com/prod_indiv.php?groupid=56.  I'm going to designate an LK7625C rod valued at $230 as the prize for the chinook salmon division.  So come on guys, that rod in itself is a good reason to sign up for the tournament.

You'll also see CaptDick Enterprisesas a sponsor.  They have generously donated an Anchor Trolley Kit and a drift chute.  I've yet to decide which prize category this will be for,  but will update you all when it is decided.

Stay tuned for more updates.  I'll post them when I get them.

Please welcome Scotty as our latest sponsor.  They've donated a set of their kayak stabilizers, a $280 value.  Hmmm, perhaps the flyfishing division prize?  No promises on that yet ... I want some time to think about it and see what other prizes come in.

I really do like having group events and meeting you all.  So one thought was to have a 150 point bonus (or some point bonus) to winners of select events, one in WA and one in OR.

-Allen

Like that idea alot.
What about the Drano Lake Springer fishery in April?  That could be a nod to the Portland part of the club and we could do another closer to Seattle  later.

I'm just fired up for a good time fishing! Grin Grin

Every now and then I have a good idea ...  ::)

I've been thinking about how to designate these "bonus events".  Before designating Drano, I wanted to make sure to think out what other events might be.  But then I got to thinking that I was thinking about it too much.

So enough thinking.  Any event that has 10 or more kayak anglers fishing in it may be designated a bonus event with the longest targeted qualified fish caught getting 150 bonus points and a piece of NWKA schwag.  Brian, is it difficult to retrofit this into the AOTY SW?

Let me qualify:

1) An event is defined as a gathering of 10 or more kayak fishermen that was posted here in advance, that lasts 1 or more consecutive days.  A weekend of fishing will not have 2 sets of bonus points given out.  It will have one set of bonus points (plus schwag) given out for the whole weekend.  I reserve the right to disqualify any event for any reason or to increase the minimum number or participants at any time (but come on now, I'm not that heavy handed so I don't expect this to happen).
2) Longest, yes longest, not heaviest.  I also said targeted.  For example if we're targeting springers at Drano, I don't want to see someone slide into a slough and pick up a dink smallmouth to get the points if no one catches a springer.
3) A "qualified fish" means it's one of the fish on the AOTY list
4) The schwag is still to be designed and designated.
5) I will post in the thread discussing the hookup if it has been designated a bonus event and what the targeted fish are for that event  It will help if you post if you think you'll definitely be there.  If 10 people don't show, the event shall lose it's bonus event status and the no shows shall be mercilessly degraded by their peers here.

Questions?
