OK I'm new to this site and i finally got my Hobie Revo. I went out to Dash point today to fish for pinks but i have no idea if I'm doing the right thing. I got a weighted jig with a pink plastic skirt that looks like a squid that they sold me at auburn sports and marina with a crappy 20 medium action rod with i think around 12-15 pound line (dunno what kind but it gets tangled a lot). I have a fish finder Lawrence x4 and i just kinda followed that around where it showed me a lot of fish. ended up being in 150+ water a lot. so after a while i saw some kayakers near the dock and i just kinda fished next to them. Was out there for a couple of hours but didn't catch anything. any suggestions on how i should fish to guarantee a catch every time?? Trolling?? different jigs/lures? Bait? And where exactly to fish around. I like in federal way and the reason i went down to dash point was i saw a post here last week about some people catching from there. Basically since i live near redondo beach could i catch pinks there to? When is the best times?? I'm 22 and i know almost nothing about fishing.

Here is a picture of my kayak on top of my car and the jig.

Also I will be going back on the ocean tomorrow. Debating still if I should go to redondo or Dash point.

Anyone from around Federal way?

You've got the right set up, but 150' is WAY too deep for pinks. Some pink smelly jelly or lunker lotion is a nice touch as well to mask our odor, plus add a little something extra. Typically I'll anchor about 60 yards off shore (10-15' deep) casting at the shore. I catch the most fish between 2-8 feet of water. make sure you are far enough away from the guys chucking Buzz Bombs off the shore and piers. Will ruin your day if one hits you or your boat. I've also found that the top of the incoming tide seems to be the most productive. There's a group of us headed to Brown's Point tomorrow eve (5ish until ??) if you'd like to join in.

That is the exact fly I use. I have some with solid brass eyes, and some with bead chain eyes. flytyer_396 tied me a handful back in '09. I always take the spinning gear along too, because after a couple hours of fly casting I need a break.

I had the same issue you had I tried last week out at browns point fished for 4 hrs with nothing even though boats around me caught some and when I was paddling back to take out spot I saw probably 8 fish caught in like 5 mins.  I will be trying it again with ravdakot and everyone but I should be out on the water by 3:30 ahead of everyone else.  you should join us

That would be really cool if i could join you guys. I need to go buy a anchor today cuz lol I didn't think I needed it. Stupid me, was used to fishing at lake dolloff without a anchor. Where do you guys park? At dash point park or dash point by the restaurant? (kinda hard to find parking there).

Parking there is a serious PITA.  Just find some legal parking on the street near the browns point improvement association or w/e it's called by the lighthouse, and there is a walk-through to get down to the water (left of the car entrance gate, which will likely be closed)

Parking is a huge pain out there when the pinks are in. If you can catch the gate open that is the place to park. you can also drag your boat don the beach on Wan-I-Da ave, or if you feel adventurous just peddal down from dash point.

Nothing that I know of.  I fished from about 3pm-730pm and saw one fish caught out of all the boats out there. You never know though

We got into them pretty good a couple weeks ago, but my last few trips have been really slow.

Just got my first yack & usually only drift fish humpies from chest high in the Puyallup, but the way I here it is if you're gonna troll them, the slower the better, just enough speed to get some motion out of your chosen bait.
Keep the sunny side up & the wet side down.
Good Luck & tight lines
