After a lot of pondering and looking at installations on YouTube, I went with the 597.  Have seen a couple of stern mount ideas for the transducer....but has anyone come up with a nifty solution to mount it to the transducer scupper hole up forward?  I have a couple of concepts involving a UHMW shim and a LOT of RTV, but has anyone seen something a little neater?

Thanks!

Googled it, now I'm back on track.  I personally like the foam puck.  I have one of my FFs installed through the scupper in one of my kayaks and the other in a foam puck inside the hull.  I don't notice much difference except, of course, the water temp reading.

UHMW is just a hard plastic.  We have a company in Tacoma that makes it for various uses, such as pier bumpers for WA State Ferries so we have a lot of scraps laying around....LOL.....other brand names are Delrin, Nylatron, etc.

When I looked it up I saw what it was.  I need to get a hold of some for my next kayak build.

Browneysvictim shot his 597 thru hull and said it works good.

On the T-13, if you surf launch you don't want to plug half your scuppers with a ducer. I say half, because those two under your ass don't really count for much when your sitting on them.

The DI transducer doesn't work with the Ocean Kayak scupper mounts.  DAMHIK.  That means you're sort of limited to mounting it through hull style.

I mounted my 597 non DI inside the hull w/ a foam puck and it works great. I tend to beat on my equipment too and I like the peace of mind of have the 'ducer protected inside the hull.

Yup- This is what I did and works pretty good, however in all fairness, I wouldn't know any better if there is (or how much) of an image quality loss mounted this way. The di transducer will not fit in the scupper hole and I would want to put it there even if it did for the very aforementioned reasons.

I saw a guy on YouTube who mounted his on the stern.  1st attempt used the rudder mount screws which put the xducer too high.  Another later vid shows it mounted halfway down towards the aft skid plate.  Don't know quite how he did that as there is not much real estate there for a mounting solution.  I was looking at my box of misc. Scotty parts and have a nifty idea on an overboard deployment that can be raised before getting to the beach.....more on that later.

Last weekend of the summer Dungie season so I'm off to set pots!  Good luck y'all!

My first transducer mount for my Revo was on a PVC wand over the side.  It rotated up and out of the water for transport, launching, and landing held in place by a set pin.  It worked well, but after a while I realized one day I would forget to pull it up on landing and would damage something at an inopportune time.  If I were to do it again I would probably use a ring mount over the side which fit into a Scotty mount.  Rather than rotating, the wand would simply drop down and pull up through the ring.

In the end I switched to a foam mount inside the boat.  I filled the reservoir with trailer wheel grease rather than water and have not touched the mounting for over a year of use.

OK...tons of good advice and I sincerely thank those who weighed in on my post.  At last a came to a decision.  I decided not to do the puck because I did not want to lose my water temp feature.  It is VERY important when fishing our freshwater lakes (opinion) and I wanted accurate readings.

My box of Scotty parts gave me a solution BUT.....it would have been big, bulky (translation:  DRAG) and mounted aft where I could not reach it prior to beaching.

So, my friends at Hook1 came to the rescue with the Liberator Mini.  Check the youtube demo:

I wanted something to protect my 597 while it is below deck during surf launch/landings. I picked up a lunch bag at REI for $10.50, and it fits nicely, has a decent amount of padding, and no metal to rust or scratch. Money well spent to protect the head unit.

I use a plastic kitchen container with a semi water tight lid. The screen definitely warrants some good protection. The tub is already scratched to hell from just one season.
