Okay, so much fo my guess and apparently you can't use the ramp at the park :o The ramp down river is okay, but very limited parking as its in a residential neighborhood and then its 1000 yds up stream to where most everyone will be, or at least, was last time.

I am pretty sure that the general public is not allowed to drive down to the ramp at George Rogers park. You can walk/wheel your kayak down from the parking lot, but it is about 100 yards with a steep hill at the end.  If you need a ramp to launch then I think Oak Grove is the closest. I have not launched from there so I can not speak about how suitable it would be for your setup in terms of the ramp and the parking.

I hope you can make it IslandHoppa! I am really curious to see your rig. The pics you posted a while back where you were sitting on the trampolines in the lawn chairs looked really cool.

Ihop you might want to check Cedar Oak boat ramp.  I don't know how big your trailer is but Oak Grove also has a ramp. I believe that the fishing area is above Oak grove and bellow Cedar Oak.

Ihop.  No boat ramp for the public at George Rogers, and very limited trailer parking too.  Cedar Oak is going to be a long haul.  Oak Grove ramp is the ticket, but I don't know about parking.  Jammer will know.

There are great holes all over the place there.  But the main area we all like to fish is just off George Rogers between the creek outlet all the way over to the other side.  Just stay off the shallow ledges on each side, and get into deep or deeper water.  It kind of depends on the current - come see me when you get there.

I just measured it on gmaps pedometer and its exactly 1/2 mile from the Oak Grove ramp to where we'll all be.  And if you're like Jammer, you can just fight a seven footer all the way back to the ramp at the end of the day...and then get some sucker to get your anchor.   ;)

And yes...there is a super deep hole just upstream from GR park across from the old concrete structure.  pdxfisher has good luck there, and the pb's like it too.  But the current can be tough, and its a long haul with a spiny fish to get someone else to take your picture.

And just to clarify the boat ramp situation at GR.  You can walk down it.  Just can't drive down.  If you have wheels and don't mind a short hill and are coming from the west side, park at GR.

Ihop...
See below.  It should work just fine for your trailer. Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday.

If anyone needs directions to the East side launch, use the following address as your destination location.

801 SE Oak Grove Blvd. Portland, OR 97267 (if you're using a GPS, make sure that you enter Portland as your city and not Milwaukie. This area of Oak Grove is un-incorperated Portland and not Milwaukie)

Notes: After launching from ramp at Oak Grove Blvd, pedal/paddle upstream or towards the South about 1/2 mile and look for the group. George Rogers Park will be on your right when you get upstream. This East side launch has a very small hill you'll hike out at the end thats maybe 50-60 feet, but nothing like the hill at GR.
Cheers!

Ihop, I may have to join you on the boatramp to launch my yak also. Looking forward to getting a Dino off the Outback.

Its going to be awesome (I'm easily amused) to have this many NWKA Forum members participating in this event (Great idea Jammer!). It would be cool if one of the News channels or someone shot a picture from the air of us all out there. Next Adventure could have a poster in the store. Wooohooo!

On a side note.....don't forget to have your Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Permit
that Brian (bsteves) mentioned in another thread, especially those of us who are from Washington or Idaho and not required to have it in our home of record.

Here‘s the link for more details (belated Thank You, Brian!)

Stevehawk, you really do not need to bring anything except for bait.  Jammer is providing the burgers, Ron of Groundswell is bringing a grill and Next Adventure is proving coffee and other warm drinks.

Since I am sleeping on the boat in Portland anyway, Would it be against any rules/protocol to power boat to the site and then yak for fish? Power boat = one biga$$ anchor...

David,
Humm... That's an interesting question. I guess as long as you're fishing from a kayak that's anchored during the tournament, that's fine with me. Whatever mode of transportation we choose to get us to George Rogers park wether it be car, bus, boat, float plane, It doesn't matter to me as long as any Sturgeon you catch that's going to be measured for the tourney needs to be caught from a kayak and kayak only!

Jammer, et al,

Thanks for the guidance on ramp and parking.

SteveHawk,

I've got Herring and Salmon eggs. Wanna crew on the iHop again Saturday?

We can meet at the ramp at 7.
