Feel free to bring sturgeon needing measured to the "Burger Barge" ( I will anchor across the river from GR park) and I can get an accurate measurement for you and top off your coffee ;D.  Also don't forget that you can not take any part of an oversized sturgeon out of the water.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to how many yakkers are going to be at this shindig on Saturday ?

I'm making up some bait balls now and getting antsy ...............

Yo Jammer.  Just in case I get there a few minutes before you do, I wanted to make sure you know...I'm in.  And I might as well get all my orders in now.  Extra whipped cream...medium rare...two ice cubes...and sure, tens are just fine.

I'm thinking of making the drive down and meeting up with y'all. I've never fished for sturgeon before nor do I have an anchor but I do have some salmon gear with 30# braid.

The weather looks pretty good too!

You are welcome to use my anchored sled/burger barge as your anchor.  Tie off to the back cleat and fish away

I just counted from the comments.  We are at 17 kayakers in 14 kayaks and a sled that sound firm.  And 6 more that are "maybes."  A solid turnout fo sho....but still no word from the elusive "the jade."

I can anchor 2 yaks independently (each can drop off without affecting the other) off my buoy.  If anybody wants to slide in next to me they're more than welcome to the second clip.

If it's still needed after I go, y'all can just leave it with DC when you're done.  I'll pick it up with your cash later.  >:D

You can tie off on mine as well if you want. I used my salmon set up last time and it worked well. Although I didn't catch anything big though. Should be fun!

As generous as this offer sounds Mark, I'm not certain I could remain focused on the Sturgeon fishing, paranoid from the wining cordless drill, with 1-1/4" spade bit in your hand as you lecture about the importance of porting my kayak to improve water passage, therefore being more competitive in such events....one competitor down, twenty to go >:D

The Tandem Island has been successfully used as a tie off point for Sturgeon anchoring, I have room for one off each ama.

PS - what's a "bait ball"?

A Bait Ball===========a ball of bait.

   Sorry--I couldn't resist that one.
Take some fine mesh cloth or cheese cloth cut into 4" squares, lay flat, fill with your bait of choice (you can use sand shrimp, herring, smelt, any oily fish or their parts, catfood, nightcrawlers, tuna, salmon eggs----get the idea yet ?) then bring corners of cloth together and secure closed with "magic thread".When completed ,you have a 1"-1 1/2 "  bait ball.Secure to hook and go  fish.
The beauty of bait balls---(1)keeps the bullheads from stealing your bait (2)you're able to utilize baits that otherwise would be impossible to get and keep on a hook (3) you can add canned scents that increase a scent trail (4) put them in a tupperware container and keep them frozen or fresh for immediate use.
Bait balls work extremely well for a lot of your "grocery store" baits that have been mentioned earlier. You can put them together while watching a football game. And they are pretty convinient in your container of choice.
I'll find out Saturday if these Willamette River sturgeon like what I've put together.....or not.   :-\
