Looks like Saturday will be a little wet, but little wind and Sunday is shaping up to be just partly cloudy with little wind.

If nobody is fishing locally, then I am going to try to hit Offut Lake both days, but will defer to Sunday around 1pm if the weather on Saturday looks bad as we get closer to the weekend.  (Looking at Olympia weather, not the whole state)

I am taking suggestions on other places like out of Nisquale for some flatfish or something.  I would rather fish with somebody than solo, but will get wet this weekend no matter what.

Would love to meet up if you are able :)

Thinking of hitting Spanaway Lake. The fish report said the Brown trout are biting.

Yes, but you have to pay.  WDFW pass does not cover it.

I think the fee is seasonal & does not start until May. Also if you live near by its cheaper than gas right now

If anybody up in northend is looking for partner I will be headed out Sunday on either side (the better side) of Whidbey Island.  It's Langley or Bush Point for me.

Please post a report, good or bad.  I'm trying to schedule a few days on the west side of Whidbey next week, but willing to go anywhere on the island.   What are you targeting?

If I decide to fish the west side I think I'll target the blackmouths.  If I decide on the east side then I will have to check the regs for the C&R species allowed.  I should probably do that right about now although they are so convoluted I could honestly fish for anything and plead truthful ignorance.

Looks like I can target salmon in both areas.  I'll probably try trolling cut plugs like last time I went out.  Ill post a report but unfortunately I don't have I camera setup yet.

After a late start this morning due to a late night at Musselfest, I got on the water around 0930.  Very little wind and calm seas welcomed me out then tried to spit me out.  After thirty minutes on the water the wind kicked up something fierce along with the swells, almost got me to paddle in to go over to the east side of the island.  After roughing it for about an hour the swells seemed to just die.  Unfortunately the wind did not act the same way.  As for the fishing, the blackmouth were nonexistent, I fished cut plug, and spoons and didn't even notice a pulse in the rod all day long.  To salvage the day I started jigging the bottom toward the end of my day and was rewarded with an assortment of bottom fish ranging from Cab's to Quillbacks.(no ling's)  :'(.  All in all, not a bad day got some much needed experience on the water and figured out what I have been using as underwear just doesn't cut it on cold windy days, I have some upgrading to do.  I hope this post hasn't discouraged anyone from coming up to fish the island.
Whidbey island fishing usually is a boom or bust experience.

Murf, my only experience on Whidbey is fishing out from Bush for salmon during August.

You ever hit the east side and cast for resident coho and cutthroat in the spring? I'd like to try that.

Also, how is the ling fishing off Whidbey? Gotta fish the west side for that?

Late summer is a great time to fish Whidbey for salmon on both sides of the Island.  As for the east side for the resident cutthroats and Coho i have a little bit of expirience but it is all from the bank.  Now that I have a Yak i can get even deeper and probably have much more success.  Holmes Harbor is a great place to target those fish because of the abundance of bait swimming around at the herring pens.  The fact the Harbor is on the leeward side doesn't hurt either.  I myself am looking forward to the west side midsummer targeting the kings running down from AK.  As for the Lings,  again the Island is a great place to target them as well.  Though I am not a big fan of the mess out there during Halibut season(combat fishing), though the season is longer this year so it might not be that bad.  I really hope this weather subsides over the next couple of weeks so i can get out there to the 200-250 ft range in order to target the monsters of the deep.  Anytime (weekends) that you would  like to come up I would be  happy to join anyone looking to fish the Island.
