What do you guys think of that gear track from yak attack? I havent seen how thick the body is on an outback yet but I imagine not that thick.

How does this stuff that attaches to your kayak using tapping screws work on your kayak? Again I dont know how thick the plastic is on the kayaks, or how hard it is. But it seems like this stuff would come loose, esp. if using it for larger tasks.

The tracks themselves are solid.  I guys at yak attack did a ton of testing to make sure that the screws do not pull out or come loose.   I think they recommend that you tighten the screws by hand too.  If you can reach the screws you can always replace a few of them with bolts with washers.   I plan on mounting 2, 12" geartracs to my Revo and  I  may use 2 bolts on the corners of each trac to supplement the screws.

I've been able to pick up a kayak by the RAM ball attached to a 4" gear track.  It's strong.  Don't worry about it.

It looks like a great system.  Rumor has it Yak Attack will release a more narrow track this spring which is what I am awaiting for my Revo gunwales.  My plan is to install the tracks and remove my horizontal bar.

I have the 8" on my Outback. I also have a set of 4" that are still in the packaging, I don't know where I am going to use them yet. I like the system it works great and is easy to install.

I had already attached the Yakima rails before Yak Attack offered theirs.  This type of  system (Yakima or Yak Attack) works great as you have the flexibility to move the attachments to different locations depending how you are using the yak.
Even added some "D" rings for extra tie downs plus a cover for the stern compartment which doubles to haul crab pots.

Sexy is an understatement.  What is the tank well cover made out of?

That hinged milk crate idea is pretty slick! Do you actually use that as like a hinged trap door to the space under your gear-well cover or it that just to fasten the milk crate into place?

Some additional info:
The rails are fastened with #10-32 fasteners with fender washers.  Where I could not reach I used Plus Nuts (http://www.cardinalcomponents.com/plusnut.htm) still with #10-32 fasteners.

The panel is 3/32 ABS.  Starboard was too heavy and the ABS will last several years before needing to be replaced due to sun damage.  The cross members are ˝ x 2” oak and the ABS is attached to the bottom of the oak members.  Note the ABS doesn’t extend over the rails and will not take much weight.  Any weight (crab trap) is supported by the oak cross members.  I thought about using netting but decided for the ABS instead.

The slip hinges are for my ˝ crate and I use the bungee on the other side to hold the crate down.  The 1/2 crate can be lifted for access to the well to store your catch or crab or just use it for storage.

This is all work in progress as my ideas continue to change as I see more options.  The main thing I wanted to do is be able to take the crate and cover off the yak when I didn’t need or want to use it.

Here’ the site for the “D”rings:
