The Permit is the only thing I think the RV Campground cannot handle onsite, so info on where and cost would be great!!!

They were able to handle it onsite last year.

Put in for vacation Thursday and Friday before - I'm gonna do this thing.

I have a tandem, so if anybody is interested I may be able to get you out in the front seat. I would want to fish freshwater before to work out how to do things, though. Let me know if you are interested. Just be aware I do not have saltwater experience yet, but I plan on getting it before ORC.

Have my campsite paid for. Will be at Chinook Bend on Thursday. Just need to get the yak ready. Radios and mount for my new Mark 4 should be here on Tuesday from Hook 1. My wife wanted me to get two Lowrance 80s so she can check in on me while I'm on the water. I'm afraid she'll use it when I tell her I'm fishing for springers and she finds out I'm at Fishermans staying out of the rain.

I am fishnut1's wife, no more health issues, but still not able to paddle, so would be willing to help wherever needed. Fish weigh in site prep, etc.
Just a 100lb malmute/lab mix that used his big 'ol webbed toes to swim out to fishnut today as he was coming back in from sturgeon (aka naptime) this afternoon. Luckily he was content to swim along side and not try to board! Beautiful clear day and 68 degrees!  See, sometimes in does not rain in PNW,  :toothy2:

That's great news Yakchick, hope to meet you and the hub at ORC. Gotta get signed up and work the logistics.

Last year the official announcement had a date stamp of April 5.  I'd guess that Spot and polepole are busily trying to get sponsers lined up (e.g. OK or someone to commit to a yak as grand prize) before they announce this year.  Hopefully it'll happen soon.

My apologies for the long wait!

Here's the latest update:

Our request for authorization will come up before the Depoe Bay City Council at their meeting on Tuesday April the 17th at 7:00PM.  If we have any central coast members, it might be good to have an advocate or two in attendance.

I'm still waiting on authorization from the Lincoln County Sheriff's office but expect to have that soon.

Spot - Minor request.  When I was going through last year's information to try to get a feel for how things went, I had to read through probably 8 pages worth of replys to figure out what the prize list was going to be.  It might be a good idea to update the first post in the official announcment thread with the full list of prizes that will be available.  Also including the full list of rules (with any chages if they evolve) on that first post would be good too.

I noticed that one of the requirements was to "follow all the rules of Depoe Bay", but without providing a link or any further explanation as to what those rules actually included.  Perhaps that was buried deep in the thread, but I don't recall seeing it.  E.g. are VHF's required in each boat?  What about horns?  Or is it good enough to transit the passage in/out of the harbor with another yak that does have those things?  Is there a minimum height for the safety flag?  What are the rules for which side of the passage to stick to while entering/exiting the harbor?  Etc.

All good feedback and things I'd been thinking about leading up to posting the official notice. Thanks!

Last year I was checked out by the Coast Guard Auxiliary for safety gear prior to launch at ORC 2011.  It was a volunteer thing.  He had nothing but good comments about us as a group and seemed genuinely impressed by our preparedness.  Perhaps this might help our cause in front of the "Powers that be..."

Also just curious about what they might be concerned with, if anything.

Yea I got checked last year too. They inspected my hull, looked at my PFD and other safety gear. They gave out inspection stickers too. Hope they do it again frankly because my old sticker is falling off

I spoke with the gal from the Depoe Bay Chamber of Commerce this morning (while trolling for salmon).  She's obviously been checking out our site and all the posts from last year.  She sounded really excited to have us and assured me that she expects approval to be given without a hitch.

Once all the i's are crossed and t's dotted I'll reach out to the local Coast Guard Station.  I think it's great that they're so close and I'd like to make sure that they feel welcomed by our group and comfortable that we have the protocols in place to keep our contestants safe and other ocean users happy.

Setting the standard for all other clubs to follow. Good work all. Hope it goes without a hitch.
