Does anyone know where I can find a milk crate that will fit behind the seat of my outback? I've asked all the major grocery stores and Costco and nobody uses the wood or plastic kind anymore. I'm about to start taking some back roads home and stopping at a Ma and Pa grocery store to ask.

Check storage stores. The container store, storables, etc. I think I got mine from target.

My guess would be to snoop around behind grocery stores for a ... umm....  stray  ;).  I think Isaac mentioned a while back that they are the property of the dairy so you can't exactly buy them from places.  I've seen several grocery stores that still use them.  If all else fails, I think West Marine still sells them.

True, milk crates are technically the property of the dairy stamped on the side.

that said

what size you want, standard or extra long? I get standards in orange and dark blue, or longs in lighter blue.

And if you can "acquire" the ones with a metal rim, do so, as they are much sturdier!

Standard would be fine in darker blue. Thanks Nothing! How much are you selling them for?
Hop I forgot you told me about Sheridans until you just said something. :)

I like this thread.  Orphan crates are often known to gather around Fred Meyer loading docks.  Look for them on the darkest of nights...

You can buy true heavy duty milk crates in regular and long sizes on amazon. I bought a crate like container from the Container Store that almost perfectly fits the well of my outback. It is bigger than a long. I have a real milk crate inside the big crate to separate stuff out. Personally I would not want "find" one on a dark night any more than I would want someone to "find" my kayak on a dark night.

Check your local Goodwill.  I have landed about 20 of the genuine dairy crates from my one local Goodwill, all for $0.99 each.

Hey Rom,

If you didn't already score one, I've got one that's orange in my garage for sure, and with enough advanced notice, I could probably get you a black one. My landlord has a bunch in her yard from when she ran a daycare out of her house. I asked her about them once but don't recall her answer and could ask again. Otherwise, like I said, you're welcome to the orange one I have. Its one of the ones that is about 13"x13"x13" not the long one. Oh, and I'm in the Hazel Dell part of Vancouver so probably close. Shoot me a pm or whatever and I'll get back to you...Dave
