Keep an eye on Sat.-Sun. for the ocean. Early prognostications  look decent... :D

Longer range is looking good, maybe we are gonna get some nice spring weather after this next system goes through...Can always hope! :-\

I might be good for a Saturday trip to the ocean.   Probably not as far south as Coos Bay, but certainly Depoe Bay or Pacific City.  It's been way too long.

Interesting how a simple fishing forum can get the adrenaline pumping.   ;D

Anybody want to try further north this time?  Cape Lookout?  Oceanside?  Cape Meares?

Hit up Depoe Bay. There are some nice fat cabbies down there waiting for you...plus no surf launch.

If I am reading the surf report correctly it looks like the conditions improve around noon on Saturday.

Is a longer swell period better?

What location would you use for Depoe Bay?

The longer period is better. I use Otter Rock.

You need to look at the probability too, 6am is only 77% and noon is 42% and 6 pm is 18%. It doesn't usually just die off, so I would assume it will 3.5+ feet throughout the day. Look for a period that is about twice the swell size. Longer the better, as CBY said. Read the article by Pelagic on the first page a few times (I still read it).

Thank you guys for the info.

I read Pelagic's article.
This is one of the things that stand out to me.

"Beware small (one day) windows of good conditions, sandwiched between bad conditions.  These generally occur between changes in weather patterns and are often misleading or very short lived, often conditions can change very quickly as a front moves in etc."

It looks like the days before and after are not great days but I would not call them bad conditions. But I would not go out on Friday or Sunday from the surf report.

My best guess by the surf report is the conditions could change quickly on Saturday.

For the NW Oregon folks:
I'm going to give my opinion that this Saturday isn't going to be a good newbie day at PC.  Even though Magicseaweed.com is calling for a pretty nice day, NOAA is calling for about a 5 ft. swell.  The possibility exists for bigger swells to move in earlier than what is forecast which could turn things crappy pretty quick.  I would like to see a decent amount of surf experience behind those that feel they want to hit the surf on Saturday.  However, you are your own captain, of course.  ;)
There is always Depoe Bay too if one insists on getting salty.

Thanks for your opinion Jeff.  I have never had either of my Hobies in the surf so I think I will heed your advice and hit Depoe if i am able to get salty this weekend. I guess i could bring a paddle boat to PC, but those muscles have atrophied over the last 9 months. ;D

A lot of water moving in the morning, 9.5 feet from low to high. It would be a really good day to go and get some razors. Moon is setting a little after sunrise so the morning bite is going to be really good. I might head to Tillamook bay dig a few steamers, pump sand shrimp and catch a few seatrout and perch before the tides sweep me back into the bay.
