I'd really like to try getting over into this kelp beds. Whiskey gulch sounds good to me.

Depending on the weather I hope to go out the weekend of the 28th to homer, don't get home until the 23rd. This summer my wife will be getting off when I am off so looking forward to getting to spend a ton of time on the water. I am so thankful my wife loves to fish! Good luck this weekend! Be safe!

Just popped over at the AOD. Seems that halibut are being caught in the middle of the bay, some place called barber creek, and a king off the bluffs! Seems to me Im reading reports of fish being caught all over out there. I think you just need to get in the water and soak some bait! Im getting pumped up now after looking at fresh kill pics!

Bait in water always equals a chance.

The issue is kachemak bay is too big to cover with a yak. The bait and therefore fish might be in paddling range...they might not. They could be anywhere. The bluffs are like 5 miles from any launching point I know in Homer.  I have no idea what the current does there. Water pushes around the spit but also north up the inlet. Sort of opposite directions if you are trying to go homer to bluffs.

Fishing cook inlets can be more productive as my experience is the bait can be more readily found concentrated near the shorelines

Kelp beds are south of anchor point. There you not only have a chance for halibut and salmon but also flounder and greenling for those interested inAOTY pts.

If we launch early from Anchor Point, we'd get three or four hours of heading south before the tide turned. We'd likely make it down near the bluffs but definitely the kelp beds.

The easier venue yak wise is still whiskey gulch. But anchor point has appeal if we had the means to shuttle yaks to the water at low tide.

Homer is the easiest but is hit or miss for fish.

We'll just have to make our best guess on access and weather and where the fish are.  Hopefully we can come back with something.  Gotta get me some points.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

You guys really need to find someone to take a look at Whiskey Gultch for you. That is the best launch on Cook Inlet. Maybe some of the Anchor Point C of C derby folks could help you out if you call them.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

My droning and mulling over the same points over and over again is EXACTLY why I am a terrible fishing partner.

AOTY points say Anchor Point, early start and head south. 4 species potential. The launch is almost a mike south if the river mouth so it's not that bad to get out if the conservation zone. 7am start should do it.

If we need to start later. Whiskey gulch is the ticket. Ok I'm flip flopping. I've never fished that area but I'm in favor oc the anchor point launch starting early. Peddle south till the tides turn and work back as the tide comes in.

But I'm up for anything.

Well dang my number got called for jury duty tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be heading down that way tomorrow night still. What happens if I blow off jury duty?

That's a bummer. Dont think it's wise to skip it. Lol. I'll probably drive down Friday night for a early Saturday spot.

Like Matt i looked at the AOJ reports and i got to think Anchor Point is now my choice. My only concern is I have never been south in my yak. But I'm ok anywhere to get out. But if we do go out of anchor point, bring small gear too. I remember as a kid hauling out decent greenling and flounder in that area.

You gonna sleep at your parents? I tjink im gonna sleep on the beach Honestly I don't care where I go. The water is supposed to be flatter in cook inlet. I just want to catch some fish.  I'll pm my phone number to you guys and then give me a call Friday night on your way down and we can figure out the rendezvous point

Don't skip jury duty, Matt.  Instead, go as early as possible and talk to the jury clerk when you arrive.  Tell her that IF AT ALL POSSIBLE you would like to serve next week so you can do this thing you've got to do on Friday.  Tell her you're fine for Thursday, and also for Monday... Normally, this "thing you've got to do" is something like a job interview, or a medical procedure, or something a little more universally recognized as equally important to your civic duty.  But let's not quibble about that.  If they have enough folks who show, or if they haven't got that many trials to seat juries for, then you might get a pass.  The jury clerk has a small bit of discretion to exercise.

But don't fail to report.  That can result in a bench warrant, which doesn't mean they'll send the cops but does mean that it would show up if you were ever pulled over because your headlight was out... Best avoided!

Is it cod? I forgot his name. He's in my may 8th video I think. He fishes the beach a lot.  I'd have to pull out my archived pm's.
