Hello. I have a Revo 13. I've been out fishing several times now and it's time to get rod holders in place. Now my dilemma .... which type to use .... Scotty or Cabela's , Ram mount set up or Yak attack gear rail  ?
I looking at placing first 2 rod holders on rail up ahead of the pull handles for rudders . Where are yours and why do you like them there ? I am also looking at 2 more rod holders behind the seat, in time.
I think I am going to go with a Ram mount for my Hummingbird PiranhaMax170 in the mast support hole already in place, looks user friendly there. Again where are your fish finders and why do you prefer it there ?

THANKS for your input

I went with 2 Scotty flush mounts in the front of my Outback stock mounts. I like the versatility of Scotty mounts. Nothing against Ram mounts, I just felt Scotty suited what I needed. I use a Scotty head mount which I can use to bring the rod in close if needed, or pushed way out if it's in my way. Just make sure you're super sure of mount location before you start drilling. :)

Here's how I placed mine.

Hello. I can't offer too much user specific data as I'm just a few weeks ahead of you in rigging my new Revo 13. I chose the RAM Rod Revolution Rod Holders. They are much more versatile than the simple tube types. I like the idea of just dropping the butt of a rod in the tube. Simple is good.
I saw that most people mount them on the rectangular area just in front of the mesh pockets. I found that mounting them there would require the rods to be pointed more forward in order for them to be clear of paddling operation. Having the rod tubes pointing forward made it more difficult to place the rod butt in the tube from the seated position.
I chose to put the rod holders further forward by the middle foot rest. That allowed me to point the tubes back a bit and made it easier to place and retrieve the rod.
I went with the mast tube position for the 'bird 170.

Good on you for fishing your kayak stock and giving this question its due diligence. That is what everybody should do.

I personally own an OK T-13 w/the mod pod so I'm staring at 40+ pre-drilled holes on the hatch between my legs and my FF.

But, the bits of wisdom I can impart is:

• Look at and practice how you will self rescue and don't impede that route that gets you back into your seat.

• If you will be targeting larger species with hard takedowns, mount your rod holders as near midship as humanly possible. Otherwise you will need to mount port fishing starboard or vice versa, which is preferable is some instances and a cluster smack in others.

Just make sure you can re-board under the ugliest conditions you see yourself fishing in before you break out your drill bits.

In case you did not see this thread already, here's what I did for mounting rod holders on my Revo 13.  I originally mounted my forward rod holder in the rectangular area just forward of the rudder up/down controls, but moved it forward later to get it more out of the way.

That's interesting. In my quest for information on rigging my Revo 13, I looked at many pictures of other owners rigging. In most cases, the mounts were in that rectangular area in front of the rudder up/down controls. In my dry run prior to drilling, I found that a mount in that position would interfere with paddling operation. The only thing I could think of is that most people pedal 99% of the time and paddling operations were a secondary concern. I plan to mix it up a bit between paddling and pedaling so I moved them up to be clear of the paddle and still accessible for the rod placement and retrieval.

I really like the Scotty flush mounts all the way at the front of my footwell. Keeps them out of the way especially if you have to paddle.

I'm in the same boat as I need to get two rod holders setup on the Oasis for the two-pole endorsement.

I like what ravdakot has done.  How hard is it to put a pole in the holder from the seated position with that setup?  Would a Ram Revo holder on a ball mount be better than a flush mount to get the pole closer to you and then you can move it out of the way for a self entry?

I installed a cross bar at the forward bulkhead of the cockpit on my Revo13, aft and just clearing the mast hole.  I mounted my FF/GPS on the far left and the rod holder on the far right of the bar.  However, when YakAttack releases their narrower version of their GearTrak I am going to remove the bar and install the GearTrac along the cockpit gunwales.  FF/GPS will be on the left, and rod holder on the right.

I use the Yak attach gear track on my gunnels.  They overhang a bit on the inside and I was not able to get all the screws in, but they are holding up just fine.  I really like them because I can move my rod holder forward and back and I can switch between my ram and scotty rod holders.  You can see the rails in this picture.

Nate--did you use bolts, nuts and washers to install or just some self tapping screws?

Just the self tapping screws.  I was a bit skeptical at first but I have had salmon and a big cabby  pull on my rod in the rod holder with no adverse effects.

I forgot to add that I really love my Scotty Orca rod holder. It's kind of chunky, but built to last, and it is very convenient to be able to lift straight up and commence reeling.

Sort of looks like the Folbe rod holders... Maybe able to mount directly to the geartrac rather than needing the Mighty Mount to adapt? After all, I'm still shopping... Anybody know?
