I have been wanting to scale down my trailer with something smaller and more nimble yet able to hold 2 hobies with all the possible support gear. I looked at all the options including some nice products from Malone and Yakima. Finally I happened upon a really great local guy in Sherwood that with some partners is building a trailer for a very good price and with higher quality components. The trailer is all welded aluminum, can easily carry 500 to1000 lb and costs about $1k. I had Steve (the builder of the trailer) put a longer tongue on it for easier use with longer boats and to help with backing etc.   I will put 700 miles on it next week so I will let you know how it performs.

Steve is available to sell more of these to the local yak fishermen. If you are interested, PM me and I will set you up.

I like it!  With it being all aluminum, is it pretty light unloaded?  Shoot me the info please :)  I would love to do a low rider type trailer for my PA and gear for my longer trips :)  A trailer that light might be able to stand up in my tiny garage without taking too much room, so it could be an option for me.

Cheers!!!

Beauty!

Elegant, yet stylish and economically priced what more could you ask for?

Just add appropriate stickers and your MPG will improve as well.  ;)

Drooling up here in Alaska! Nice trailer. That thing would cost over 2k up here I bet. At least thats about what it costs for meat trailers (for towing behind 4 wheelers) that are custom built up here.

All I see that it needs is a rod locker.  Something you can safely leave your fishing rods/reels locked up for burger or bait stops.

Nice trailer, perfect for pulling behind a car.

Insayn makes a great point.  I have found lockable everything/storage is key.  Yak launches are often in out of the way places, longer trips often necessitate extra gear that doesn't go out on the yak, and parking for lunch stops etc. are never by the front door of the restaurant do to parking constraints of the trailer.  I notice a $500+ mirage drive strapped to the top of the box..Perhaps replace the plastic totes between the yaks with a lockable metal "truck/job box"??

Yup!

One big deep truck box bolted down to the center of that trailer would be a great addition for the spendy small gear.  Would be cool to cut a hole and add a 4'-6' x 6" diameter aluminum tube to the front side of said box out over the tongue to store/secure rods from inside the truck box.

Some great ideas here guys. I have been thinking about a custom made aluminum, lockable box about 40x40x24. This could pretty much hold all the gear but the rods and big nets.

Anyone have contacts with someone reasonable that could make a box like this that wouldn't  cost more than trailer?  I saw a post on Irish a week or do ago but haven't followed up yet.

I'd suggest keeping your eyes peeled for a truck box on Craigslist.  A new quality aluminum truck box will be $500-$800 real quick. So, I'd think that custom made could be more.  Go used, and modify that.
