Are you going to paint the whole thing? I don't know the answer to your question but the why you would want to has me curious. I wanted to paint the bottom of my white kayak to look like an Orca. Thought the seal lions would enjoy it.

So you think the bottom of your kayak color is scaring the fish? Can fish even see color? I would think it would be the motion of a large object more so than the color. But what do I know?  ;D

Just don't paint it white. The fish will think a great white is overhead ...

Regardless... this is what I know... I fish with a guy who has made it clear that a mango colored boat doesn't fly because it scares the fish.  If I want to go when he goes I gotta paint the bottom of my boat.  :)

If somebody said that to me I would tell em where to shove it. I paid alot of money for my yellow hobie and the theory that bright yaks scare off fish has been disproved time and time again.
Do YOU want to paint your yak? It just seems silly to permanently alter your yak like that for someone else.

Next time you go swimming bring a mask with you.  Go to the bottom and look up at something floating on the surface.  Regardless of what color it is, pretty much all you see is a silhouette.

+1

Go underwater and see how poor the visibility is, especially in the salt in the summer!

Colors like red and orange are the first ones to "disappear" underwater, your friend is mistaken.

Quote
The primary obstacle faced by underwater photographers is the loss of color and contrast when submerged to any significant depth. The longer wavelengths of sunlight (such as red or orange) are absorbed quickly by the surrounding water, so even to the naked eye everything appears blue-green in color.

Alrighty gentlemen, I am not offended by this guy wanting me to paint my yak.  I paid 260 bucks for it (I would not paint a hobie either) and figure it is no big deal.  I like fishing and I enjoy hanging out with this guy.  The price of "admission" is no big deal to me on this one.  Now understand... I think his preoccupation with scaring the summer run salmon is odd and likely unnecessary, but it is how he is.  So the question remains... What paint will work on the plastic of a yak?

I gotta know what magic color he thinks a kayak should be.
