Does it have to have a cartoon/superhero graphic?  I'm pretty sure I have a otherwise eligible rod, but I know it's not branded with such graphics.

Is there a seperate entry fee for the category?  Prize for the biggest fish (without ??? breaking the rod)?
I don't have a dog in this fight, so just an outsider's perspective.

I think to meet the intent it should be limited to a "kiddie" rod, preferably with graphics.  Anything beyond that would be an advantage; even a "Dock Demon" would be a serious upgrade compared to the integrated one piece rod/reel combos like Shakespear (Barbie) or Zebco (Sponge Bob). Line weight should be restricted to the original equivalent, i.e. 6# mono of your choice.

I get that.  And as much fun as this would be I'm not going to buy another kiddie rod just to compete.  The one I have is a Zebco, or the equivalent.  It just doesn't have the cartoon graphic (and hence was a couple bucks cheaper).  It's got the button for casting and everything.  I'd even be willing to subject it to scrutineering.  If the decision is cartoon graphics or it doesn't qualify then I'll bow out of this side contest.

But I'll still hurl invectives at those taking part.  I'm sure I'll hurling something anyways.   :puke:

I'm guessing that in order for it to be a fair fight everyone needs to be using a purchased as a combo "Barbie/Snoopy" rod.  Otherwise I'm using my custom built Columbia river Sneaker rod ::)

Could run it like they do with amateur dirt track racing to keep all the cars close to equal.  Anyone can purchase anyone's car for $1500 with no buy back option until the car has been raced by the new owner. This keeps folks from pimping too much, as it would be a waste of money in the long run to build a car for someone else to pull it out from under you.

With the kiddo rods, everyone that signs up to play has to show the rod they are going to use at tech inspection, and get a secret sticker applied to it and said sticker has to be in the picture with the fish caught.   Anyone that thinks someone's kiddy rod is overly pimped has the right to trade before launch and have it for themselves with no trade backs until the tourney is over.

Sounds fair and like a great plan.

Spot's rules are spot on. Last time I checked, which was fairly recently, the shakespeare kiddie rods were $11. I propose limiting to those so it doesn't get too complicated. I'll even bring an extra one.

You have to change the line because the stock line won't even support the weight needed to get down. Much less abrasion, or God forbid, a fish. I say put whatever line you want on there. The limitation is capacity. Put too heavy of a line and you will undoubtedly get spooled. Besides, I want to see one of these things explode when a real drag-burner is hooked. You need enough line on there to let the reel get red-hot. More love! More love!

Maybe all the kiddie gear competitors throw a fiver in the pool?  Or, just for the glory? Whatever the prize, it'll be a blast.

We did this last year down here and had a ball. You might want to use the line that's on the reel though, and add a long (10'-20') heavy tippet .   We allowed a line change and got some really big fish. Those little reels put up with more abuse than you'd think for a week or so. Then they fall apart.

kiddie sized rods like the Emmrod?

HECK NO! Leave the CB antennae on the rig! 4-10?  The emmrod is actually what prompted our lil tourny (that, and too much beer) :drunken_smilie:
Besides, the dam thing works and would completely defeat the point of the contest.

I'm hitting Big5 on the way home today to pick up a combo just for this.  I think it is going to be a blast.  I can/will contribute up to $20 for the prize pool or donate a pack of gulp grubs or something.

I like keeping it to "kiddie" themed combos.  I even think that a 6-8lb or any light max strength limit on line would be a blast.  Yeah, 6lb test may be tough to get down with a lot of lead, but that for me is kind of the fun of this.  If we allow respool with braid, than broken rods are going to be tough to avoid....again, half the challenge and fun.

The tech check in is a great idea!!!!

Again...fun times ahead.

This looks awesome.  I imagine I'll be picking up an extra rod on my way over.  I think some 20# braid would fit nicely on those small reels.  I think that is 6# diameter.

 >:D >:D >:D

I ain't using a kiddie rod on game day at ORC.  ORC is a man's game.  There's no room for boys at this one.  You barbie rod toting fools are just looking for another excuse to say why you lost.

 >:D >:D >:D

Now, say you wanted to play your little game on Friday ... hmmm.

Pole...Friday might indeed be more appropriate...

It would be nice to either pitch in for a large spool of line that all contestants spool their reels with or maybe somebody can donate a spool...  Evens the field a bit.

I encourage you guys to fish as much as you want, all day in fact, with the kiddie poles. It's what real men would do..  Heck bring fly rods too >:D
