Hello,

I am new to kayak fishing but would like to go and mooch for Salmon.  Let me know if anyone goes to or around Tacoma or Olympia Area?  I would like to fish with some other Kayakers!

Welcome. There are lots. But the forum will be empty for the weekend; they're all at a tournament in OR.

Feel free to hit me up any time. It's too early to start targeting salmon, but come Aug it will become a mind altering obsession.

I an VERY new to kayak fishing and I am in T-Town. I have gone off by the claybanks a couple of times and hit the mouth of the Puyallup. No luck yet but there's not many fish out there...Yet. So I have tried mooching and tried to snag something off the bottom but haven't had any luck yet. Like I said, I am very new to fishing from a kayak but I am trying to get some experience. Keep in touch if you want to try and go sometime. I could use some pointers to get me going in the right direction.

I'll be fishing/crabbing the Chambers bay area July 1st with a guy from NCKA if you'd like to come out with us. Once we drop the crab gear We'll start bottom bouncing for flounder. They are as big and exciting as salmon, but they are abundant and good eats if you are up to cleaning a solid doz or so. If you'd like to come out shoot me a PM and I'll fill yo in on the details.

July 1st sounds good to me. So you are throwing pots down as well? I was looking into that too but wanted to make sure I had everything organized before I went. I had a Dungeness clamp down on me up at Fort Flagler and I will NEVER be careless like that again. It was like a pair of plyers clamping on my middle finger. Broke my nail in half and lucky the bastard didn't break my finger. Do you have a hand crank to bring it up or do you just pull it up?
I am game for flounder! Those are great eating if you have a sharp knife and don't mangle the meat. Let's exchange more info as the date nears...I think I am open that weekend but I have to make sure.

I just spoke with my wife and forgot we are going to be up at my cabin in Packwood that weekend. Bummer. I might try and get everything packed up and get back in town in good time but I bet you guys are going early?

Thanks for the invite out. I really want to get out there with you guys and catch some fish! Does anyone ever get out after work? I am in the north end of town and I get off between 3 and 4PM. I am game for weekdays as well.

The park we launch from doesn't open until 0800, so not terribly early. Likely off the water by 2ish give or take a few weather and bite depending. If you miss out this time, you'll have plenty others soon to follow. On another note... A cabin in Packwood huh... I just happen to know a guy that likes to bow hunt and and has dreamed of shooting an elk for the entirety of his life  ::) Gonna have to get the low down on that area from you at some point.

Sounds good NWN! Was just at wholesale in Lacey, and they have Danielson traps with an everything you need kit for $44.99. Your welcome to fish my gear that day to help you decide what style trap you want to buy.

Well I am new to this site (just opened the account today) so I will check in and get out there with you guys in the very near future. I've been reading a lot on kayak fishing and am super excited to meet some people that like doing it - none of my buddies are down.

My family has a had a cabin in Packwood for 30 years now in High Valley. Great stream fishing and hike-in fishing up there. I just got a new float tube and have been dying to try it. You're buddy is in the right unit for bow hunting elk. I know some great spots up there that nobody goes to but you have to be in damn good shape. That's the trick around there: stay in shape. Most of the elk hunters around there are fat and drive around in their truck looking for animals.  I'll fill you in with some more info.

Thanks again for the invite and tips. Keep me in the loop and we'll slay some fish soon!

I was referring to the guy behind the keyboard  . Looking forward to it. I'll keep you in the loop as to when I'm hitting the water.

I'll be in South Carolina that weekend.   :'(

Probably taking the kids out to flounder fish this weekend and hopefully keep the rockfish off the hooks.

If the bite is anything like it was a couple weeks ago you could shingle your roof with those guys after a full day on the water. Don't waste your time going to our normal flounder spot by the north dock. The hot spot was right in front of the park in 60 FOW.
