As for having a "clean side",  you have  a 50/50 chance of ending up on the other after goinginto the drink.

I have a 100% chance of getting to the other side should the need arise.

Spent my lunch hour installing a couple Scotty Rod holders on the Hobie Outback. One will be for trolling and the other is for the fly rod. I don't think I'll be using both at once but you never know.

I might try to use one to mount the FF.  Not sure yet.

I like mine there, it's easy to get to and it keeps the rails of the yak from being too cluttered.

I chose this spot, cuz it's far enough away it wouldn't get in the way, yet I can still see it. Although I don't use the front rod holders, a rod still fits in the holder with the FF that close to it.
