Is it just me or are guys who paddle SINK's often quite full of themselves?

Actually, I have deep lineage in SOTs. I fished out of them for 20 years, still do on occasion. My father worked on the design team to develop the first one back in the early 70s (ROYAK - look it up in your history book). Several of my friends made good money redesigning the ROYAK into Ocean Kayaks, and your probably fishing out of something related to that today. Kayak fishing didn't start with the mirage drive Hobie, and it didn't start in the 1970s either. It simply evolved into something more user friendly so the marketing machine could move toward the goal - a billion butts in a billion boats (Tim's words not mine). But if you want to believe your on the cutting edge, go ahead keep living the illusion no need to stop now. One day you'll find the limit, just hope it isn't fatal.

I don't think anyone claimed to be on the cutting edge.  Most of us realize kayaks have been used for thousands of years to catch fish and hunt sea mammals.

This will probably be the next craft I build.

I can't wait to run the mighty muddy Tualatin with it.  Although maybe a cleaner lake would be better until I get my SUP legs.

I stand corrected... Obviously my original statement was totally off base.. ::)

"look at me" sport is pretty spot on. yeah sure, theres exceptions. get over it. it's exactly what they portrayed in that video. but i guess thats todays advertising for you. just like the gawky fucks that responded "oh, i dont care about the board where do i get one of her?" and hydrospiders "Yes,  it just so happens that beautiful and healthy women (who enjoy wearing bikinis) find the SUP enjoyable. Im just not wired in a way that finds this offensive but only as a plus"

so why is "look at me" sport unjust?

you wanna advertise a craft for fishing, do it appropriately and make a video like this - http://www.youtube.com/results?client=safari&rls=en&q=san+diego+thresher+shark+on+kayak&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=w1

besides half of you guys are on hobies. by definition - http://www.thefreedictionary.com/kayak
read definition number one.
so in the "kayaking world" and on a website thats named northwestKAYAKanglers how about you guys decide who is just in being "full of themselves" or just in the right site to make such statements.

and what the fuck is someones negative opinion to you? how about find the thread where someone posted a video of some guy trying to launch in surf and all you made snide comments? or when i posted that i dove into the water to retrieve a pole that went overboard? the comments 'try staying in for 20 minutes' and 'you should always wear appropriate immersion gear?' it all seems pretty condescending to me.

the majority SUP'ers in seattle are fucking retards. they give us every reason to dislike them. like i said there are always exceptions.

We can make fun of ski boaters but we can't make fun of SUPers.  Lighten up guys!

I ran into a gaggle of kneeling SUPers on my way in this weekend.  I just had to chuckle.

i'm an opinionated guy but i am also smart enough to know when to keep my trap shut.

we all have opinions (some stronger than others) regarding kayaking.  in all sports there seems to be those who try to set themselves apart, not based on excellence, but based on ego or an attempt to boost themselves by pushing others down.

now whenever i feel that urge to speak ill about types of watercraft i may think are silly i will remember this thread and remain silent and remember that we're all out there hopefully having fun, although it must be tough for some to have fun with the serious business their fishing and kayaking is.

I dont see many SUPers over here- but i certainly wouldn't look away if i saw a couple lady's walking their dogs on the water like that.  I see SUP as an interesting thing, im pretty sure it is not a new sport, as i remember something like this my uncle had when i was a kid some 30 years ago.  It certainly appears to be a challenging platform to fish from.  It reminds me of when i started doing this kayak fishing thing, i thought, as i think many of us did, i was inventing a new sport, combining this kayaking thing with fishing.  SUPing is not Kayaking though, it is SUPing.  Cross training im sure is a great way to build your "core" and i belive the benefits could make your kayak paddling better.   i havent checked, but is Northwestsupanglers.com available? maybe over their they will talk about how they hate the kayakers and their sitting around with their limited view.  This thread does remind  me of a scandal a couple years ago in kayak fishing magazine where a gal was fishing wearing a bikini and they featured her on the cover- the magazine was accused of using a bikini clad women on the cover to sell magazines- as it turned out, she was a legitamate (sp?) fisher(wo)man.  as it turns out people wear thier swimsuits in kayaks, and on SUP's- huh- go figure.
now go fishing, tight lines all
