Looks like there is some chatter regarding the 2013 AOTY getting started on the Official 2012 AOTY thread.
Guess if there was an Official 2013 AOTY thread, all of it could get worked out in it's own thread.

Have at it!   8)

+1.  Several of us pink-less Portland guys plan to make a trip up there for the madness this year.

Why not just group the salmon... chums/kings... silvers/sockeye/pinks... I could see pinks being their own but, as you can tell, I like it the way it is.  I would agree with the assertion of lumping cutts and rainbows together.

We've had them grouped in various ways before.  We sort of have in mind to keep the species list limited at 20.  Not for any particular reason other than keeping things somewhat manageable.  Certainly willing to explore more species if that's what the group wants.  We'd probably do that with the spirit of balancing out the competition across geodes.

I was wondering if anyone wanted to volunteer for the AOTY committee for 2013.  Looking for 2 people.  Anyone can do it, just to help define what, if any, changes we do for next year.  And help with judging entries if that ever become an issue.

So when do you want Prepayment for the 2013 year and is it going to be the same amount?( Also how about adding stripe bass to the Panfish? just kidding.) I could see a biggest fish in each species getting a small prize? maybe? never did hear What was won by who last year, musta missed that thread.

Don't agree on lumping Cutts and Rainbows. The cutts a shifty stalker that stays lean and fast, and bows are lake pigs. Some lakes produce 20 pound rainbows, but a 5 lb cutt is rare in most lakes. It would be like lumping sockeyes with kings. I would add that panfish are undervalued. The biggest one this year is less than 150 pts. Maybe just get rid of that species if your looking for a shorter list.

There certainly is a real possibility of someone entering a 16" yellow perch, which would be a 200 point fish.  But even a 14" yellow perch, at 175 points is a definitely a possibility.  Not bad points at all.  The largest yellow perch entered to date is 13.25".  Keep in mind that one of the goals of the points allocation is to make a trophy fish of a given species be about 200 points.

I've had a number of volunteers step forward to be on the AOTY Committee.  Thanks for that.  I will be reaching out to you all shortly to figure things out.

One of the questions that has been asked, multiple times now, is if a committee member can participate seriously in the AOTY.  I personally don't have an issue with that as I think it helps to have someone who is serious about AOTY give feedback as a committee member.  But I can see how it may be perceived as a conflict of interest.  Keep in mind that the committee members duties would encompass first, setting the rules for 2013, and second, judging on suspect entries.  When judging, we would resort to voting, so any one member would not carry the burden on their shoulders alone.  I wanted to put this forward and get feedback form you all as to what you think about this.

I see no conflict of interest here at NWKA, I think everyone just wants to have fun catching fish and showing up their "brothers".
If they have the time and are willing to help set it up....more beers for them at the event.

Yaktrap - I completely see what you mean about the differences, but with regard to points it would seem putting them together would not harm the overall integrity of the aoty.
