It takes way less than 10 pounds to move a kayak forward through the water. I am guessing it takes 3 or 4 pounds.

But at what speed, and were your feet hanging in the water?  I generally have my feet in the water.

Maybe we're talking different kinds of numbers here, but then again, you two have recently indicated that you like to use lighter gear.  I'm pretty sure I'm putting more than 10, 15, maybe more than 20# of pull when I yank a ling off the bottom with an tiger stick and a penn fathom.  No drag slip and it's rated at 25# of drag.  Seems like Lings 28 inches or better and Cabbies over 22 inches can make that drag slip, but nothing smaller.

I love the way those fat cabbies peel line out once you get them near the boat.

Lee, have you ever measure the drag to see what 15# of drag feels like.  Go get a 15# dumbbell out of the garage and hook it up to your favorite setup.  Come back and tell us how it goes!  Now image that on a kayak.

No, of course I haven't, and I haven't bothered to figure out MA from being on the short side of a lever is for the situation either.

Drag slipping and sustained runs are two completely different things. A 22 inch cabbie and a 28 inch ling are not what I would call drag burners. In fact they are pretty docile and can be landed with a barbie rod.

A fish that can run for more than 50 yards with over 10 pounds of drag are pretty uncommon in the pacific northwest. Maybe only a big halibut 75+ pounds, big ling 40+ inched or a big king of 20 pounds or more.

Done.  It felt like I was breaking off a snag.

So I just heard back from this company on a price for the sturgeon rod in the video and I nearly lost bowel control. I think for that price I'll save a few more pennies and buy a backup Hobie.
It is a sweet rod though, I'll give you that. :)

Cool craftsmanship on the rod. What are the specs (length/tip action/taper/butt lenght)? How is it custom for sturgeon out of a kayak?
Well I have selected everything from the blank to the gimbal by weight, sensitivity and length to reflect entirely on my sturgeon kayak fishing needs. It's been exciting and very involved.

Since you are just targeting the big dogs it should be a nice stick to fish with.  A little on the stiff/heavy side for light biters/smaller fish but for those Fraser pigs it will be fun.  I asked the custom question as sometimes kayak specific rods will have a shorter butt section on them to make it easier to handle the rod/reel from the seated position of a yak.  Smart thinking on the 8ft length as it will let you get around the bow if needed (and you will).  I personally would have gone with a slower action (moderate perhaps) that would allow for more flex throughout the rod which would give you more forgiveness and shock absorption for handling big fish especially close to the yak.

I chose the fast in this rod blank for strike sensitivity and the ability to set hard on said strike as this to me is most important in sturgeon hunting.

Most big game sturgeon rods with any sort of reputation are heavy power and at least fast action

How many over sized fish have you caught on the Frazier? Are they pretty rare encounters? What type of bait will you use? Single barbless, I'm assuming?

Are they designed for kayak fishing?

Don't get your leader in a knot ;D  Just tossing up my thoughts as someone who has caught lots of oversized fish over the years from both a 20ft sled and a kayak.  Congrats on your new rod.
