The beast arrives on my doorstep some Time on the 21st of December, a perfect Christmas gift indeed.
Now all I need to do is dream up another design and get my friend Dave on it.

That is a badass looking rod. Now I want one.
Just out of curiosity, how much are they asking for that sturgeon rod as is?

It's completely custom, first and only of its kind, built specifically for sturgeon from a kayak.  Not cheap at all kinda ridiculous but worth it to this point. E-mail  seafooddave@aol.com.
armbreakercustomrods.com/ and I'm sure he will help you price out your own unique fishing masterpiece.

I run a talica 8 on my halibut rod. Amazing reel but way overkill for the kayak.

Is there a such thing as overkill when your hunting for a 10' 500lbs dinosaur ??

Cool craftsmanship on the rod. What are the specs (length/tip action/taper/butt lenght)? How is it custom for sturgeon out of a kayak?

Well ... what is it you want from the reel?

The reason I say it is overkill for the kayak is because you can only exert so much drag from a kayak. The number I have heard thrown around is 10 pounds.

So what is it you want from the reel?

I'd like to know where the 10 pound number comes from.  I know we have more than 10 pounds of resistance just being pulled through the water with a fish directly in front of us.

It takes way less than 10 pounds to move a kayak forward through the water. I am guessing it takes 3 or 4 pounds.

10 pounds is a number I've always thrown around.  There is no precise science behind.  Factor #1 is what Bill says.  Factor #2 is that it is pretty darn difficult to maintain 10# of pressure vertically on a fish from a kayak.  It can be done, and I think it can be done up to 15#, but you'll want to build up some experience doing so and have the right equipment as well.
