I will put in my vote that all guides be ineligible from AOTY participation as it is an unfair advantage.

I don't see how this fixes a problem that existed prior to 2013 AOTY.

I've never caught a catfish out of a Yak.

You "generally" don't catch many over 25" though.  At least I don't.

I think a lot of this discussion needs to be moved over to the Official 2013 AOTY thread.

I for one appreciate all of the clarification. It makes placing in AOTY more attainable for some of our members who may not have as many opportunities to travel very far, or participate in some of the big fishing hot spots like Foggy Bay.

I'm glad the goal of eliminating big fish hot spots has been taken care of....

If we are trying to make the rules black and white then no guide should be allowed to enter a fish as there is no way to prove if they were fishing with clients or not.
I move to include all trips were one experienced angler is introducing a less experienced angler to a new fishing area or using a new technique be disqualified as well. Since the less experienced angler is not solely going against the fish himself.
Also any events that are planned by other people but you participate in not be allowed to count either. I am mainly thinking of ORC since it is paid entry and planned out for most participants.

Good to have everything black and white.

Seems Bill beat me to it, but...How is what often happens with newbies to the salt at the ORC much different than a basic saltwater guided trip. They pay an entry fee to participate, they have most of their own gear, they have no experience with the fishery and someone mentors them to help them catch their prize.  Second place finisher at the 2012 ORC is a perfect example.  The extra cost of entry/time/travel to the ORC is not available to all members, and the level of help and guidance is way above average.  Hardly the same experience as doing it solo on your own..

There is no voting on anything.  The rules are what the rules are.  If clarifications are needed, just ask.

Let's not take anything away from a great event like ORC.  It is NOT the same as a guided trip.  Otherwise I'd make sure my designated newbie won!!!   ;)

So with all the black and white rules we are just trusting that guides will say they are with a client or own their own.

I would like a black and white rule disqualifying all guides from AOTY competition. I will be guiding for Howard this year and only other guides are PolePole PelagicPaddler and Jamer.

If you guys are OK with stepping away from competition then this would make everything much more black and white.

What makes you think Guides know what they are doing?  An incident with a bass and AOTY rules comes to mind >:D ;D

So I am OK with it PolePole is OK .... the leaves PP and Jammer.

And no it is clear we can't trust each other that is why we have all the new rules.

I entered no fish caught while guiding last year.  Hence the reason my entries ended early in the spring as I was too busy taking folks fishing.  I has some real nice fish I could have entered but chose not to for that reason, instead I handed them off to paying clients.  Jammer apparently had more time on his hands ;D  Just teasing Jamma.. we all know you're the man

I didn't say I was OK with it.

If you want to not play in AOTY, that's your business.  But we're not going to officially ban guides.  The line has already been drawn for 2013.  It is what it is.

The problem is the line hasn't been drawn.
So guides fishing without clients are eligible correct?
