still haven't got my kayak wet (other than the never-ending rain).  The hull actually filled up with water until I learned to store it upside down.

Also looking to get one of those dry suit things since most of my previous fishing has been in shorts & T-shirt.  I have a massive 18.5" neck and have read about some of these suits being very restrictive at the neck.  Where near Salem could one go to try on a Kokatat Angler T3?

Moved from SoCal to Salem in March and still haven't got my kayak wet (other than the never-ending rain).  The hull actually filled up with water until I learned to store it upside down.

Also have a tuna boat that I drug up here with me, but was only able to get out in it once in Oregon in 2012.  Always looking for good crew to accompany me on the boat & the yak.

Dave

Welcome, Dave!  You made the same move I did in 2007, SoCal to Salem.  I miss the days of fishing in board shorts and a t-shirt, but I love the fishing up here!  Unfortunately, there isn't much to speak of as far as kayak fishing stores in Salem.  The closest place to buy that stuff is up here in Portland.

Tell us more about this tuna boat of yours.  Is it big enough to carry a few kayaks out to where the tuna are?  >:D

Welcome to the PAC NW! I'm not sure who stocks the suits in the greater PDX area. How big and tall are you? I have a large T3 angler I'd let you try but I would bet that might not be big enough.

My Large is not overly tight on my 17"+ neck, so I'd think an XL would easily work.  You can also get then custom fit.  Neoprene necks are much more forgiving than the latex.

Well, according to Marie, as long as it's ribbed for her pleasure ...

Thanks for all the welcomes.

The boat is a Parker 2320 pilothouse.  I could probably get a couple kayaks on it, but not really practical.  It fishes 4 comfortably.  I'm about 5'11" and 210 pounds with a fat neck.  I went to REI in Clackamas last weekend, but they didn't have a single piece of kayak gear.

Are my lobster nets any good for the crab or did I waste the effort bringing them up here with me?

Usually REI doesn't bust out its kayak gear until end of spring.

If you are willing to make another drive up to Portland,  Aldercreek Kayak at Jantzen Beach store has a pretty good selection of gear.  Their website shows a Kokatat T3 Swirftentry drysuit, XL, on sale for $499.  It's not the Angler but it might give you an idea of fit and comfort.

Nice boat.  I've always had a thing for Parkers.

Your lobster hoops should work fine.

Get a copy of the OR state fishing regulations to see if your lobster nets are legal for crab.

Hope you have some law training ... :)

They are fine and I'm not even sure what lobster hoops are.. Oregon has no specific restrictive regs pertaining to crabbing gear other than 3 pots/rings per person

Fat necks unite!  I too have an 18.5" neck and I had to trim the latex on my OS systems suit. It was easy to do, just trim along the guides on the collar and now it fits great.  I need to trim the cuffs to because I have wrists to match my neck and my hands go numb.  Oh well it's better then having a neck like a stack of dimes.

Oh yeah welcome to the NW as well
