I think I will be headed over early Saturday morning to PC.  That means I'll be there around 2-3pm.  Will anybody be fishing the afternoon at PC?  I've never surf launched so I don't want to go it alone.  I'll be ready to fish all day Sunday before my long drive home.

It looks like I'm bringing my salmon gear.  What tackle should I be trolling?  I do have a downrigger if needed.

I'd skip the down rigger and bring a diver or two to a cut plug herring. A little flash is good too.

Might have some wind by that time in the afternoon. The earlier you get on the water the better.

I don't know if I have any divers in my collection.  What type/size is recommended?

I'll get to try out those cut plug caps we got in our captains bag at ORC.

Deep 6 divers are good in sizes 0 or 1. You may be able to just use cannon balls 6-8 oz if the fish aren't too deep. Either would probably be fine.

Went out of Garibaldi with a friend on Tuesday - about 50 miles to the tuna!  Stopped on the way back in and picked up a clipped silver - my first in a very long time!  It was a simple setup for the salmon, diver, flasher, whole herring.  With coho closed now, any differences when targeting chinook out there?  Or is it just luck and luckier?  Also, we were trolling in about 200+ feet of water; when going out of PC, how far out is the salmon trolling?

Would love to make it out there - conditions look to be perfect for the first time beach/surf launch.  Seeing what I have to do to make it happen on Sunday morning...

What time on Sunday morning?  show up at 6am or launch at 6am?

Edit: Also, what fish are open for catching and keeping?  Any special regs on gear used?

Troll just outside the break to maybe 40' of water with a 5" coyote spoon or herring with helmet.  If the bait fish are in, try dragging on the bottom.  If not, try somewhere between 8 and 15 pulls.  Don't think you're in the wrong spot if the boat are farther out than you.  The nooks will move in and feed just outside the break in the early AM.

Justin - We might do a late-afternoon session depending on how the morning goes and conditions. If we're planning to head out again we'll probably be parked down the beach hanging out or playing in the surf - feel free to drop by. Look for a "big yellow banana" tandem, brown Xterra.

7 bottom fish (rockfish, kelp greenling, cabezon) of which only 1 may be a cabezon (min. length 16"), plus 2 ling cod (min. length 22").

Are you talking about a late session on Saturday?  I wouldn't mind joining if you go out.
