Way to go Justin, and congrats on your first surf launch and landing.  All I got was a good workout.
Heading offshore solo may not be the safest thing ever, but sometimes it leads to incredible situations.

Don't worry he was my dolphin buddy and hung with me for several hours.  He did get a bit close at one point and I ended up hitting him with my fins.

Got out to Depoe Bay with Mark. I was on the water around 6:10 a.m. and had my limit of rockfish a couple of hours later including a triple hook up. I hooked a big ling (28 inches) and as it was coming up it was hit by a bigger ling (according to the bite marks). After he got bit he came up like a limp fish. He was in shock. I was in shock too. I wonder how much bigger he was than what I brought up. I'll be at PC around 5:30 and will be on the water soon after. I'll drop a crab pot south of Haystack Rock and head north for Chinook and Rockfish. See you all tomorrow!

Nice report. I'm pretty sure that's a porpoise Nate but cool story nonetheless  ;)

PC Report for Sunday, Aug. 4th. Partially dumped in the kiddie pool. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Lost my $10 compass and Nunchaku-Fish bonker. I was going to drop a crab trap but I started getting leery being on new water. Those swells on the north side of Haystack were nothing to shake a stick at either. Worse than pre-fishing at the ORC. I did bring in 5 rockfish while fishing with Chumchum, Crabbycabby, and a few others. The landing was much smoother and I definitely learned something - don't try and do it all in a single day! Crab pot, salmon, rockfish, lingcod/cabezon... It's too much especially when you're a noob on new water. I liked the new water, but because the fog never really cleared, I didn't get to the north side of the cape like I originally wanted to. No matter. I still had a good time and brought home a valuable lesson with me even if it cost a little gear. I'll be in Depoe on Tuesday morning after fishing the Siletz on Monday for Chinook.

Be safe out there!

It was a pretty sweet day of fishing.  pulled in some underlings, and tossed back a greenling - one of these days i'll get some blood on the boat.  had a blast though.  Thanks everyone that showed me the ropes in PC.

Awesome day @ PC on Saturday. Personal best ling cod @ 29". Everyone thought for sure I was hung up on bottom. In 45' water but line counter on pole said 35' so i knew something other than a rock was at the end of my line, finally it came up. That is really strange how they act like it was stuck on bottom. I'm ready to go again. Easy out and return.

I finally made it home.  I'm bea tired though.  Work at 7am is going to suck.  I'll have to clean my gear tomorrow.

thanks all for fishing with me.  It is a lot of fun to hit new water.  I just wish Sunday was like Sat. morning.  2 launches and landings and no problems.  I'm happy with that.

I think the next time I'm fishing with one of you I need a good lesson in cleaning fish.  My filets looks like I hit them with a weedeater.

Catch you all later.

I'll post photos tomorrow maybe.

Saturday was a gorgeous day.
My buddy caught his first ocean salmon. 15# Chinook.

My luck was a little less than pleasing; not even a bump from the local fishes. I lost a crab pot, and got in a yelling match with a guy insistent on burying his 4wd suburban in front of me - twice.

The first time the man wagon came hurtling in front of everyone else about running over half a dozen tourists, t-boned the ramp and high centered. He had to be winched out, but then he went directly back out on the beach (???). He  straight away cut me off in line (probably thinking I'd get stuck) cranked the tires and spun out burying the thing to the running boards. While he was digging out is when I ensued letting him know what I felt about his manors, intelligence, pedigree, etc. It took me an extra 45 minutes to get off the beach due to his stupidity. Once he was clear, I revved my little four-banger roller-skate to the moon, got a running start, and plowed through the furrows he dug up. Took me one try and about 30 seconds. 100's cheered me on and gave the guy a stricter railing than what i'd earlier delivered. Luckily the local sheriff agreed with my assessment of the moron and gifted the chap a citation for his wondrous driving skills and pissing off everyone else wanting to go home. However, I'm not sure what the citation was for.

Still, it was a gorgeous day and I can't wait until next time.
(fyi - crab pot is attached to a new white boat bumper, white line, and the strangest pot I've ever bought on clearance. Shaped like a doghouse. Dropped in 35 ft of water halfway and SE to the rock. It's a very unlucky pot. If you find it, can I have the bumper back?)
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Glad you made it home! Was hoping we'd catch you at the cleaning station. There was a traffic jam of morons getting stuck on the ramp.

The were porpoises for sure.  It is good to see folks found fish both days.

Ryan, were the 2 sedans still stuck next to the ramp when you left on Saturday?  When I was pulling out one was still working on burying itself deeper.

The traffic was aweful.  Some girl was stuck on Sat. (headed to the beach) and I had to wait about 15 minutes.  she finally got out with help of others, I don't think she ever even got out of her car.  2 vehicles then made their way up the ramp then she got turned around and got stuck heading out right in front of me.  I wanted to dunk her head in the salt.

Instead of waiting, I hooked around her car, hopefully showering her with sand on my way by.

If 4wd vehicles are getting stuck, why would you take your lowered honda out there?
