Yup. That's the spot. I'm going to try and get there earlier 5:30-ish to get on the water at first light. I have to pick up some herring for the trip too. I have that Brad's Herring that looks like a herring, is plastic and opens up to put scent in. I don't know if there's anything like the real thing though...

Web park is a county campground directly behind the hotel across from the ramp to the beach. Cheap, clean, showers etc, not to mention a fish cleaning station.

Im up for salmon trolling Sunday morning let me know what time you guys are launching and ill be there. Are we meeting at cape kawanda? Never been but heard you drive onto the beach to the launch site?

Wes
You drive onto the beach and turn right toward the cape. Park with the other cars and write a sign on your dash that says "kayak launch and recovery vehicle". In the winter they don't seem to care much but when it's busy in the summer they will write you a ticket.

With coho closed now, any differences when targeting chinook out there?  Or is it just luck and luckier?  Also, we were trolling in about 200+ feet of water; when going out of PC, how far out is the salmon trolling?

Would love to make it out there - conditions look to be perfect for the first time beach/surf launch.  Seeing what I have to do to make it happen on Sunday morning...

-Sam

Troll just outside the break to maybe 40' of water with a 5" coyote spoon or herring with helmet.  If the bait fish are in, try dragging on the bottom.  If not, try somewhere between 8 and 15 pulls.  Don't think you're in the wrong spot if the boat are farther out than you.  The nooks will move in and feed just outside the break in the early AM.

Since it sounds like people are going to PC and it also sounds like it is a first time for some, I want to make sure that people understand not to fish anywhere just past the surf on the south side of the cape where the dory boats come in and out through the surf.  You will not be making any friends if you do.  ;)  On a weekend like this, there will be a pretty obvious traffic lane that we need to do our best to keep clear of.  Either go farther south, or north of the cape if you want to follow Spot's advice.

Yeah, what he said. Also if you get there early enough to be in the "first row" parking (i.e. closer to the dune) then just expect to get parked in, i.e. be confident your vehicle can get out on the softer side. I saw a minivan half stuck in that situation.

Also, as someone else mentioned, definitely stay south of all the incoming/outgoing boat traffic to troll.

Is the weather forecast still looking good?  I'm tempted to leave after work tonight so that I have all day to fish Saturday if I want to.

Yup, looks pretty solid. Don't forget the seasick meds :) The multiple swell might make it a little lumpy.

A little chum won't hurt anything :)

Just got the confirmation that I have a dog sitter for the weekend.  I'll hit the road in about 2-3 hrs.

Silver flash and cop car have worked for me.  Don't forget to crimp your barbs or switch out your hooks.
