Oh, and for what it is worth, the Coast Guard Auxiliary is looking forward to having us again, and advised they will come out to Chinook Bend Campground both Thursday and Friday nights to do vessel inspections. They want to impact us as little as possible at the ramp.  I had them do mine yesterday while I was rigging up, so I wouldn't have to do it at the ORC.

If you want to succeed with the inspection, here is a fun game you can play.  I haven't done so, but I assume it would be an action packed first person shooter.  http://vdept.cgaux.org/vve/launch.htm

Or, just have a safety flag, whistle, radio, compass/gps, sunscreen, drinking water, immersion gear, pfd, and a white light (head lamp).  A cell phone may be extra credit, but I am not sure.

I spoke with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol and they will be out at the campground again the night before to speed up the vessel inspection process.  They assured me it is a quick process.  Here is the Coast Guard check sheet for anyone who is interested.

Very excited to report that my son Tim will be fishing with me this year. He's caught a few fish that could have won ORC, like this 47 3/4" ling from his youth in Eureka.

Not sure if there's an earliest allowed time to launch.  Obviously if it's still dark it would be poor judegement to shoot the hole.

If you'll be staying at the campground the night before there'll be waivers availble there.  The CG will also send people to the campground that Friday evening too for inspections.  If you'll just roll into Depoe Bay that Saturday morning then you would be well advised to get the CG to do your inspection before hand.  Otherwise you might be waiting around for a while unable to hit the water.  I know they've said there'll be some waivers available that morning at the launch too.

Shannon -- you might consider staying the night on Saturday. The awards presentations and the feast that night will make it worth your while.
Besides that ------ there will be a lot of people that you might want to meet and shmoooze a little. It is a good time.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

I will have lancer jigs at the campground.  If you want to make sure I have what you want please message me and I will make sure I bring it with me.

www.lancerjigs.com

While you can contact via the website it would be easier for me if you just message me here.

Payment in advance is preferred... no shipping if I can just hand them to you at the ORC campground.

Time for me to make my annual offer ...

Are you new to the salt?  Feel like a little company on the water?  I'm willing to take 2 newbies out.  Note: this is NOT a guided trip.  This isn't a 3 hour tour of my honey holes, because I've fished Depoe Bay exactly 3 times (the past 3 ORC's).  I'd just like to help a couple people out on their journey to becoming salt water kayak fishermen.  Must have all your own gear including proper immersion wear and a VHF radio.

Newbies and those with little/no salt water experience:  I HIGHLY recommend taking Allen up on this offer.  I did in 2012 and it was very helpful.

Nice offer, Allen!  Thanks for doing this for the newbies.  Wish I could take advantage of it, but alas, I'm still too newb/chicken for the salt for depoe bay...maybe next year.

I was thinking the same thing then my wife told me I could sign up for the ORC not a second thought I'm in then it was depoe bay Thursday , that little channel in them big rocks is intimidating in a yak even though I have chartered out of there. But once you clear the channel it's exhilarating to look out to sea and keep paddling. You may want to just paddle out and around a little then back in to get your appetite for it wet, I can't wait to go back out.

Allen,
My name is Mike. I would like to take you up on your generous offer if it still stands. I have no experience kayak fishing in the salt.I am really stoked for my first ORC. I kayak fish about every week.  I fish alot in the Columbia River. I have been charter fishing out of Depoe Bay, but never in a kayak.  I will have my kayak, all required safety gear and tackle.

You're on Mike.  Find me at the campground.  I'm planning on being there Thursday evening and pre-fishing Friday morning.
