I strongly urge you to make this event. You will make new friends, get lots of great advice, share some good time on the water, and around the fire.
A premier happening and I guarantee you will take home more than you will bring to this gathering of the clan.

 Make it happen.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

I hope you have more kayak experience then posts (on this site).  The ocean is not a great spot for beginners.  Lots of time to get practice though.

****************IMPORTANT UPDATE********************

This year we are needing to manage the tournament roster differently for the ORC.

The roster for the 2014 ORC will be limited to 120 competitors.

This was a decision made by the group of guys taking on the organization of this years tournament.  The main reasons for this decision are: 1) The Depoe Bay Harbor has a limit to the amount of traffic of fishing craft that it can safely accommodate.  2) Parking in the area around the harbor is limited. 3) A limit to the number of competitors makes the logistics of the tournament much more easy to arrange and manage.

This tournament has grown steadily over the years but in previous years the number of competitors hasn't been more than 85 so the limit of 120 still allows room for growth and will hopefully be enough to accommodate the additional competitors that may attend due to this tournament being the only West Coast Hobie Worlds Qualifying event.

We must keep in mind that we are not the only group of fishermen that will be planning on using the Depoe Bay Harbor that day.  It is reasonable to assume that power boaters may be targeting off-shore tuna, ocean salmon, and possibly halibut out of Depoe Bay so we must try to leave room for them too.

Finally, we will not be posting a list of competitors or the current number of competitors that are currently signed up for the tournament.  As you can probably guess, this is our tough-love way of encouraging people to sign up early instead of waiting until the last week before the tournament to make the commitment.

I get the limit.  Kind of too bad to have to put one in place, but 120 guys/gals is a lot of tupperware decending on Depoe Bay at one time.

Might it be worth figuring out some kind of shuttle for most folks to relieve the parking issues?  I wouldn't mind paying for that service.  Have shuttles running every half hour or so from 4AM-8AM and again from noon-3PM (or everone's back at the campground)?  With a trailer setup like what the NA guys had last year you could easily move 8 guys, maybe more, at a time.

Maybe we could get permission to hog the parking area by the playground just for the day (no trailers).

Also, the back row of parking spaces behind the Shell station, as well as the parking lot in front of the Neighborhood for Kids (which we have donated funds to in the past).

Anyone have a golf cart handy to tow wheeled kayaks and crew up to/from the upper lots??

I was think the same thing. Between my truck and trailer I can probably fit 5 or 6 yaks in with room for 4 people up front. The GF will be dropping us off then picking us up. Im sure there are other people than can help yak pool too. Maybe we should have a yak pooling meeting that Friday evening.

Good ideas, although I know we already hogged the playground parking area in years past. Also, trailer spaces can accommodate 3 or 4 vehicles if guys can coordinate. Most trailer spaces are being used by just two (or sometimes one) kayakers.

We discussed the need for some kind of shuttle system but we haven't decided on a solution.  If anyone is wondering how they (or their spouse who doesn't plan on fishing  ;D ) can help with the tourney this may be a good thing to think about.
