I dropped knife number six into the ocean last Thursday. It's time to find a nice bait knife to tether to the kayak and designate a knife for the PFD to only be used in an emergency situation.
Any suggestions would be sweet!

I think I have the bait knife figured out but I'd be interested in other's opinions on the PFD knife.

Love mine! It offers a few different attachment methods too. Not limited to the clip.

My PFD Safety knife is the Gerber Rivermate.  Never had to cut my way out of any tangles with it yet, and haven't lost it since I purchased it in 2008.  I have it tethered with a retractable cable, and clipped to the front of my PFD left chest area.

My bait and everyday kayak knife is one that I found in the sand years ago while out camping.
Just a cheap S&W tactical type knife.  I have no idea what the blade is made of, but the blade hasn't rusted at all yet. I'm not religous about rinsing that off after a salt dip either.  It is the kind you just push a small button on the handle and the spring assist whips the blade out for ya.  I attached it to a tether as well and keep it in one of my PFD pockets.  Sharp enough to cut bait and stab kill a octopus.  The tether is long enough to reach anywhere that either of my hands can reach and then some.  Made the leash from 1/8" shock cord.

I use the NRS co-pilothttp://www.austinkayak.com/products/1809/NRS-Co-Pilot-Knife.html.  Only 5" long so stays out of the way on PFD tether.

I use the NRS co-pilot also. Nice and compact. I think it just comes down to personal preference when choosing a PFD knife.

NRS co-pilot and the Wenoka squeeze are both excellent.  Both come in a large and small version.  The Wenoka is also available in titanium.  I own both and they are both great quality.  The co-pilot does come with a bottle opener feature though, just in case  :-)

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the bottle opener idea. I could see that coming in handy.

I got a McNett Samish knife from ebay - does the trick for PFD knife and multiple purchases when things go swimming.

Wenoka Squeeze titanium w/ a tanto blade. Clips onto my pfd and stays there. I have a cheapo Berkely bait knife for regular use or my Leatherman.

I use this one. Stays put in the sheath real well.

Same here.  It's served me well for about 8 years now and has held up really well.  No rust and still secures perfectly.

For a boat knife, I use  a Rapala 4" bait knife.  I got it in an ORC swag bag years ago.  Damn fine knife for under $10.

I have NRS Pilot (a bigger version of Co-pilot) and I regret suggesting it to my wife as my Christmas gift. While it looks cool and attaches well to the PFD, the effort I put to make a cut is not compatible with my personal feel of safety. On this scale Spiderco Salt is by a magnitude better knife. Besides that NRS Pilot rusts a little bit, not to an extent when it is a problem, but enough to be annoyed with it.

Correction: my cheapo is a Rapala as well.

Are you saying it's dull, or some other issue?

That is why I bought it. :)  It also proved itself as a rescue knife last weekend on the Clackamas.
