It was mentioned on another post that we sometimes talk in code.  So here's your chance to ask post about fishing slang.  Either ask a question for fill in blank for someone else.

Here are a few to get you started..

huli = to capsize
pearl = to capsize on an incoming wave by going over the nose of your kayak
WAF = wife approval factor
farmer = someone who can't seem to land a fish
pig = large fish
chromer = bright salmon or steelhead fresh from the ocean
dino = sturgeon
hawg trough = a measuring board for your catch

Here's one I hear/use but don't fully understand. ..."cracker"...which I thought was a lost fish due to a botched net job, but have heard it applied to any lost fish.
 Also, some"slang" my wife uses...." Get that #!@&&#* stinky dry suit out of the house!"

I haven't heard it too much on the west coast, but us lake michigan yakkers used "Jonah" frequently to refer to that one guy who, when brought on a trip, guaranteed that nobody caught much of anything.

My Latino wife calls me that all the time, but I don't think she's referring to botched net jobs :P

Here in the Northwest we used to call that person Brian. He started catching fish though. ;D

I've heard "cracker" used in the sense of someone hook-setting so hard they snap the line, or trying to horse in the fish too fast and snapping the line.

"EFF-ENN" <Insert angler name here>

Not sure what it means...heard it over the VHF recently and a few times this year on the water.  Seemed timed to be a compliment but the similarity to a slang root word and tone makes me believe that it's not really a compliment....

I think it means "a fish was landed." by the named angler  or at least that's the only correlation I can come up with....

When used in the context of "EFF-ENN RUDY!!!", it is indeed a term of endearment.

The highest form of praise bestowed on a fishing companion.
