Simple plan.  Fish more.  I have been a slacker this year and am worse off for it.

Trust me, we've got plenty of whites up here as well.  ;D

To fish with Effin' Rudy again!

-Allen

I have to add this one to my list as well. A trip to Kodiak Island and landing a 60+ lbs King off a kayak would just be so cool.

Besides that-- fishing with Kard_84 is just too much fun. The guy is hilariously enthusiastic.

I haven't firmed up my 2015 goals yet. In 2014 I had/have some overall goals, mostly modest, and some AOTY-specific goals. I wanted to go salmon and halibut fishing from the kayak, and I did those things (but no fish so far), and I wanted to participate in 3 tourneys, which I also did. I'm planning a post in January for my 2014 AOTY journey, so I'll leave that to that...

I feel like I was able to get out a ton this year, but a few times I felt like maybe it was too much, putting other things aside. So maybe my goal for 2015 will be "get out as much as possible but stay balanced."

Some ideas for 2015:
  • Be humble and appreciate all of the great people I've met through kayak fishing
  • Help out newer kayak anglers more
  • Finish in the top 10 in the 2015 Cascadia Big Fishing Year challenge
  • Finish in the top 5 in AOTY for Oregon
  • Keep catching bigger cabezon than UplandSandPiper (less of a goal, more of a given)
  • Stop chasing reports
  • Catch a gat-danged channel cat!!! (shaking my fist at the sky)
  • Find a striped perch honey hole
  • Find a place to catch flounder in Oregon and/or fish the Nisqually delta

Oh sure define your successes by my failures! I never do that  ;)

For you folks desiring to get out for ocean salmon and halibut,  please don't let your desires surpass your knowledge and physical abilities.  Good news is,  it's December,  so you have several months to get in shape and study up for it.  Don't waste that time!

I'd be happy just being able to get out and chase bluegills. From a kayak and with a 3wt fly rod would be a plus.  ;D

These are my kayak fishing goals:

1.) Don't die
2.) Albacore tuna (mothership)
3.) Halibut (Pacific or California - I don't care)
4.) Arctic Grayling
5.) 10 species of fish on bacon - Only because I want to get sponsored by a bacon company.
6.) Help 2 others catch their first kayak salmon

Solid advice, salmon and halibut fishing grounds are around 3-6 miles off shore in my neck of the woods. That isn't such a big deal if conditions are good but you have to prepare for the worst. My biggest concern is dealing with a pissed off flatty. Adding ropes, gaffs and floats to the equation can sum up to all sorts of things that could go wrong. That just makes it more exciting for me. This definitely isn't a solo mission.

I'm stoked to give it a solid effort this year. Rudy definitely has me motivated!

All you guys crack me up.  It's one of my top goals to fish with ya effin guys in 2015.  It's definitely something I don't do enough of.  We have some uber cool folks here in Alaska and even we don't seem to get together anywhere near often enough.  I was starting to think a little that maybe I had a really grating personality and people avoided me so the mention even if in jest is certainly appreciated in this thread!

I suppose the ability to go it alone is one of the draws of kayak fishing but there is some much to be gained by going with others.  Safety, great pics and video, greater area covered, different baits down...the list goes on and on.  So my priority list will start with:

1) Fishing with more of the NWKA crew. Try to fish outside Alaska at least once with a NWKA crew.
2) More Diverse fishing: I had a KILLER 2014 but you will see in the highlights it's 90% halibut and kings...not bad if you could only pick two but I can fish a zillion things.
3) Enter and score ten competitive species in AOTY:  To further my goal of diversity and to have one more thing to participate in at NWKA.
4) Add a new dimension to videos I present: Not sure what this means.  Underwater video?  More "How to" Videos? Not sure yet.
5) Fish more with my kids on the kayaks: At 13 & 10 my kids have already been fishing on kayaks but its time to take it up another level past small ponds.

I can't wait!!!!!  If it's anything like this year, it's going to be AWESOME!!!!!
