Just wondering if we are required to take the shuttle on Saturday morning, what if we are car pooling?

If carpooling you are welcome to drive down.  We offer shuttle service to help alleviate some of the parking and traffic issues at the launch caused by vehicles with only 1 angler.

WX doesn't look too bad. South wind though. :-(

Shhhh...
The first rule of ORC club....
You don't talk about the ORC marine forecast.

Why not? WindAlert is showing 9mph wind with 18mph gusts at 6am. That could be a significant safety concern depending on your level of experience.

You're right, I should have stated that better, it should have been ... "don't talk about how good the ORC marine forecast is" ... you might jinx us and then we'll end up with a WindAlert.

Jinx and ye shall receive.  :)

Since it now looks as though there is a chance the wind could hose things up for us I would like to take this opportunity to go over the plan B just so everyone is on the same page.

If we wake up on Saturday with a bar closure because of a small craft warning the plan is to head down to invade Yaquina Bay with the plastic navy.  Stay tuned to this thread for more details. We will at least wait until the Depoe Bay coasties make their morning update, which usually happens sometime just before sunrise. If they decide that the bar remains closed then we will head down south to Newport and fish the jetties. Here is the alternate launch location.

Additionally, it is important that you make the call for yourself for what conditions you are comfortable dealing with. Each participant is responsible for assuming the risk of their own self. When I fish Depoe Bay I like to stop at the overlook on hwy 101 to watch the conditions for a few minutes. I highly recommend it.

Tides seem fine. Not great, but doable. As you pointed out there will be an ebb for the late morning/early afternoon but it isn't a strong swing. People will need to take this into account though. Also, tuna are being killed offshore so there will likely be PLENTY of boat traffic on Saturday. The good news there though is we wouldn't really be competing for parking or boat ramp bandwidth.

Jeff makes some very good points.
Here is a thread after ORC 2013 that has a lot of insight . Take time to read it.

It's all about everyone being safe. Have fun guys and girls.

We just got the first place trophy.  I know it is not an over-sized bowling trophy, my preferred option,  but I think most folks would prefer taking this home.

Also here is preview of some of the gear that Fish Field is donating for  the winners table.

Cool trophy Nate. Did one of our guys make it.?  I hope the idea of a big-o-belt buckle stays alive for next year.

The belt buckle is where it's at trophy wise. I think we just need a good connection to a jeweler.

As for that trophy.  I have one very similar from the Next Adventure bass tournament a few years ago. I forgot who the artist is, but it's really nice.  One of these days I'm going to mount it above my garage door.

The guy who makes these trophies is not a part of NWKA, but he is an honorary Next Adventure team member. ;D

After all the banter I have put on this thread I am not there this year. Damhik.
I want to be.... but I have some medical issues I don't want to be detrimental to anyone else and have taken myself out of the competition this year.
That said---- I hope everyone has a great time, the winds are calm, and lots of big  fish are caught.

Take lots of pictures and share them with the rest of us. I look forward to some awesome reports of great catches, huge fish, awesome prize packages, and all enjoying themselves. Good luck to all.................

A humongous thanks to Kayak Shed for sponsoring the Friday night spaghetti feed benefiting HOW OR. They picked up the tab for the dinner this year so we could reap the profit. We took in over $625 tonight!

I should be sleeping but I'm just too jazzed.

Have a fantastic and safe day fishing tomorrow everybody. Big fish dreams.

Speaking of raising money for HOW, I must have missed the announcement at the awards on how much money was raised from the ORC registration fee for our friends at "Neighbors for Kids", as well as for our local HOW chapter.

What did it all tally up to?
It's always good feeling to see them receive a fat donation check from ORC.
