Nice.  Looks like our sister site in Hawaii, the Aquahunters (part of the Polepole kayak fishing forum family), has gotten a reality TV gig.    Congrats to Isaac Brumaghim and his crew.

Now to see if they will stream it on Hulu or not.

Speaking of Isaac, his "Chompy the Shark" video showed up in the Tiger Shark Episode of Shark Week.

I bet that girl that was on here fishing for kayak drama a year or two ago has something to do with this show.

You would lose that bet.   ;)

I had a producer reach out to me last year, looking for ideas/areas.  I tried to get him to go to Alaska, but he wasn't interested.  He started to show interest in Hawaii, so I introduced him to Isaac at Aquahunters.

I remember talking to her too.  She didn't work directly for Discovery.  She worked for a production house that has produced shows for Discovery.  This other guy was similar.  When we were chatting about it last year, he didn't even know it would be on Discovery.  He was still trying to sell the concept.  I've probably talked to 5-6 such producers over the years.  This is the first one that has really gone anywhere.

Funny thing ... they all wanted essentially the same story.  How can you interweave competition into it?  In this case, the story line is commercial fishing from a kayak.

I think they definitely picked the right place for it.  Cause you know, shark fear and all.  Gotta have the drama.

Yeah, I agree, Hawaii is a good place for it.  Sharks, scenery, personalities, fishing ...

Did you intentionally list fishing last?  That made me laugh.

Because at the end of the day, it is so much more than the fishing ...

Well I just watched the first episode.  My response would be Ho Humm at best.

Sure it showed some big fish being caught, and I would love to be there doing the catching, but all the crazy camera angles was seriously annoying.

And why do they have to film it like EVERYTHING else on the Discovery Channel is filmed,  zooming nearly into outerspace and back every two minutes and again at commercial breaks?  Remind you much of Gold Rush?

I guess I'm just too used to watching all the great You Tube videos that only show "point of view" from the kayak, kayaker's head or a kayakers buddy near by.  In this show, one fish gets about 200 different camera angles in a matter of minutes before it is landed and then "poof" they are off to another story.

It would be nice to see real world launches, landings, point of view fights to the end, gear and kayak overviews, cover some safety aspects, and maybe some beach drama.

Just kidding on the beach drama, I meant to say fish fry.   ;D

I fully remembered it was going to be on, and my son recorded it as he wanted to see it.
Then an hour later it was on again.

Didn't bother watching it again.  Just couldn't.   :-\
