I'll continue to watch the show. My biggest beefs are the manufactured drama and rapid cuts between scenes, including showing the beginning of a hook-up, then switching to another view of supposedly the same fight with a different yak, maybe even a different color, or/and close ups of a spool as a fish takes line--often switching between different types of reels. Whatever. Scenery is beautiful, particularly when viewed from a PNW couch as storms blow through.

I turned on episode 3, thinking that you guys were right and I should give it another go.  Well, all I see is people talking shit and being complete amateurs.  We all do dumb shit,  but come on,  I feel half this shit has to be made up.  And all the kayaker hating kayaker shit?  Give me break,  do people really act like that there?  Ridiculous.   Oh and that 5 mile trek through the swamp because it's the ONLY way to get there when they show the main road right there as they paddle past it at the end.   Yeah....still fun to watch the catching though.

finally got to watch episode 2. was enjoying issac's interview and then the BS about the competition. I dunno how it works in Hawaii, but you try and run me off a public spot here in Alaska I guarantee you will get the short end of the stick. maybe not at that moment but I have zero tolerance for that kinda stuff. I've had people try and run me off their "spot".  didn't end well....for them. I laugh thinking about the "fun" I've had at their expense.

not sure what I'd say if I was asked to participate in something like this. I can see the draw and the pay being enticing.

I know the show is not geared to kayak anglers. But if any up and coming kayaker think this is the way to behave, at least in Alaska, they are in for a huge surprise.

I've had communications with Issac and liked the brief interaction. I would very much like to support him.

But the premise of this show sucks and is terrible for the future attitude of new kayak anglers and the already fishing but media susceptible veterans.

If you think that's bad, you should try surfing the premier breaks in Hawaii.

It's all about respect.  You kiss ass, respect the pecking order and take your scraps or you get "doughnuts".  If you're lucky, you find an in with a guy at the top of the pecking order and don't back down when he tells you it's your turn.

I've experienced this kind of localism all over the world but Hawaii is the only place where you can be guaranteed that it's not bluster.

I don't think you'll see that emulated in kayak fishing anywhere else.  This show takes place on an island chain where the locals have been priced out of everything but sunshine and ocean access by visitors and transplants.  They jealously guard the little they have and grow up in a culture where fighting is considered by many to be a social norm.

Good point Mark.  I thought my reaction was overkill after I rad it this morning.  add to the fact that thee drama centers around situations that are NOT sportfishing and really commercial fishing, its the right mix for something like this to happen.  Still don't like it.

Though with strong opinions, I am generally a pretty nice guy.  But a word of warning for any up and coming folks who think this is how Kayak angling is supposed to be...especially in MY waters (haha), I always carry a nearly worthless Hobie paddle that I can re-purpose to fit across the side of your head.

that's hilarious Mark....a little less so because I'm a bit embarrassed about the fact there is much reality in that narration. lol.

I also want to clarify what they show and the scenic side is amazing. what I don't like was they used kayak angling as a platform for drama. as a drama it's as good as any of the reality shows I guess.

I loved kimi saying she shot a world record but just ate it.  Lol. that was awesome and I loved that attitude.

I wouldn't buy into that completely. I don't recall the exact quote but I believe Isaac basically suggested on Facebook that portion of the show was fake and just added for additional drama.

If you take the drama and fake editing (Kimi is often in 2-3 different kayaks on the same scene) with a grain of salt the show is pretty awesome. I've always wanted to live on the big island and chase Ahi and other Pelagics.

I hear ya. I think the show has some merit. beautiful scenery and a few minutes of fishing. I'm against exactly what you said, the manufactured drama.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but it's not all manufactured.  Some of it is for sure, but not all.  Long before the show, I heard a few stories of people getting run off someone's fishing ground, in one particular case, a gaff was involved.  In this case, a punch to the nose slowed the attacker down before others at the beach got involved to stop things.

Lol. I've turned the corner on the Kenai River to see a guy pointing a gun at another guy. was in days before the cell phone and phone cameras.  so just took off to go find someone.

I am sure the rivalry is there. I'm sure it works for a while but it's a big dang ocean. surfing is different. very limited number of breaks. add money, and I'm sure it happens to some degree.

maybe they should just try and be a better fisherman if you have to be so protective. maybe legislate and get  limited entry established. but it only takes on psychotic bad ass and the those being ass hats to be protective is going to end up being crab bait.

go buy a private pond if you need that kinda space and the entire ocean to yourself to be able to catch fish. Lol.  somehow seeing that, their catches are much less impressive to me though I'm sure the battle is real.
