Well not much happening at Hagg today.  I think the water is still too dark and murkey.  I peddled around boat ramp C today for a couple hours without a bite.  I had the whole lake to myself.  The main part of the lake was a little rough with wind waves and the on and off rain.  I don't think the lake will be fishable till the rains let up and all the silt settles back down.

Good to know! I'm eager to get my kayak out there for the first time ever, but I gotta wait till my truck is fixed. Sure seems like everything is preventing me from taking my kayak for its "maiden voyage". (From me at least)

I'm going to assume you are talking about trout, correct?

I keep is silly simple.

In clear water, low wind, no rain days I tie on a heavy fly like a Wooley Booger, or something else that resembles a big bug.  I let out A TON of line and troll 1.5 or less in an erratic pattern.

In less than perfect conditions, I tend to long line a Rebel Craw, Bumble Bug, or just about anything from Rapala at 1.5-2mph.  It depends on where the fish are, and how deep I need the lure to go or not go.

I really dislike all the extra hardware if dodgers, flashers, divers, etc.

Stocker trout in a lake are really not my favorite fish to target, so I don't feel I need to drag all that crap around for them in the first place.
I really only troll for trout when I am traversing the lake from one Crappie hole to another, or to and from the boat ramp just to have something to do along the ride.

Depends on the situation, of course. My "go-to" stocker trout trolling rig for larger/deeper lakes (i.e. not ponds) is a small Sling Blade dodger with a red or green Wedding Ring spinner 16-24 inches back, tipped with your choice of tasty bit (worm, corn, etc.). I re-tie my wedding rings with flouro line and double sz. 4 hooks or a single small treble. If I need weight I put it 12 inches above the dodger.

INSAYN is right, though, it doesn't take much and sometimes less is more. I also like trolling a simple Rooster Tail by itself (beware of line twist, though).

Yep, I'm with Insayn.  Small trout Rapala with lots of line out at 1 to 1.5 mph.  I some times use a small micro flasher system but on Hagg I haven't noticed a difference between using it or not using it.  If they are biting they'll usually hit the plain jig or the one with the flasher the same.

Not me.  My son is still off from school and I don't have any cold weather gear for him so he dont go out in the kayak with me in the winter... yet.  [emoji6]

Not much to report today, mainly just tested my waterproof gear, and paddled around testing stability. Cold day but fun to get out on my kayak for the first time.

Sharkcatcher, what was the water clarity like? With the drying weather, I am thinking a lot of our reservoirs will be recovering from the high turbidity associated with the 15-plus inches of rain we had in December.
