New shiny yellow boat needs some blood on it. Also, more multiday fly fishing trips, John Day trip with The Kayak Shed was awesome, more shenanigans must ensue.

Go to sea.  Period.  Been babbling about it for three years, and time's a-wastin'.

Wait!  Goal #2 is to live to tell about accomplishing Goal #1
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Nice pic of the babe & tiny Dino Nate, S'cute!

I'd like to take the Tetra to PC and just play in the surf until I have skills. Then hit Haystack for crabs and rocks.

More fall chinook at Klickitat and maybe an extended sail from Bonneville to Astoria.

Catch some decent bass in Lacamas with poppers on fly rod. Catch ANYTHING in Lacamas (it's 300 yards away and my skunky nemesis).

Rejoin aoty if sails are allowed. Wonder if sails will be allowed at ORC?

Build a jib for the TI.

Sails allowed for AOTY, ORC, or both?

Specifics Bob!

Met a few of my main goals for 2015 -- get the new boat rigged, took my son for a trip so he could hook and land his first fish -- that's why I bought the tandem, and get the dog on the yak.

Not met so moving into 2016:
 - get to standing on the yak in the stillwater
 - fish MOHR saltwater (Salmon Slayride was a hoot but the wind really blew!)
 - add at least three fish new species to the kayak
 - jump in to AOTY 2016 (hey, gotta start somewhere, might as well be at the bottom!)
That's where the fish are and there's no place to go but up!
 - still toying with the idea of putting a downrigger on the Big Tuna

2015 Jackson Big Tuna (tandem) (dark forest)
2016 Hobie Outback LE (screamin' orange)
2014 KC Kayaks K12 (the better half's, in camo)
2015 Jackson Kraken 13.5 (bluefin)

My noob list is short: 1) don't fall in the water (again) 2) catch lotsa fish 3) make new friends 4) quit spending money LIKE a drunken sailor on shore leave (notice I did not say quit spending money....) 5) learn more places to bank and kayak fish 6) maybe try the salt...
Practice makes real!

Glad to hear some of you are considering AOTY2016. As Noah mentioned sails will be allowed this year for AOTY, all other craft restrictions still apply.

This thread is full of great ideas for the new year. I really need to quit my job and become a full time yakbum.

2015 was my1st year fishing from a yak. I experimented, made and learned from a multitude of mistakes, caught a lot of fish and most importantly had a lot of fun while sharing these experiences with my wife.
2016 goals:
Staying safe while fishing larger bodies of water.
Spending a solid week on Vancouver Island and catching as many new species as possible.
Getting a rod in the wife's hands an getting her hooked on fishing.
Fish tournament or two.
Spend more time taking the grandkids fishing.
Eat all the fish in the freezer from 2015 before adding more.
Learn to post pictures on this site.
And have FUN!

I've been giving this thread some thought.  After my king streak was broken at 14 consecutive months, I felt this huge sense of relief.  Very odd.  December will be the first month I didn't do some type of fishing in years....maybe 5 years....

I'm starting to catch kings and halibut with a Barbie rod...I guess I haven't landed a big one though the estimated 80 pounder was basically caught had my harpoon tip not malfunctioned.  I feel a bit like I am burned out.  I've had it happen in the past and this too will pass.

So my goals:
1) Meet more folks to fish with and do my best to introduce others to kayak angling.
2) Get more diversified and interesting videos: Underwater shots, Gear and technique, the science behind fishing, etc.
3) Get my son to catch a fish that weighs more than him.  It only gets harder every year.
4) Oh, and my one secret goal...I've won every tournament I've entered (or the kayak division) , five now.  Three NWKA Alaska Yak Classics, The Barbie Rod derby, and the Homer Winter King Kayak Division.  Obviously participation is much lower than the derbies outside of Alaska.  I want someone to beat me to take the pressure off if and ONLY IF, I enter a respectable fish.  Hahaha.

2015 was awesome!  especially gaining my son as a fishing partner.  Looking forward to a great 2016 year for everyone!!!

My first year kayak fishing in 2015 was great. Got chinook, shad, walleye and bass.

For 2016 I really want to get steelhead and learn to fish the salt for rockfish, lings, and anything else that is out there. Maybe participate in the ORC if I can get the nerve up.

Hoping to fish some lakes for kokanee as well.

So many fish and bodies of water, so little time. It's been a blast so far.

May you all have a great year of kayak fishing!!
