Just a heads up, if you don't want to sleep in your truck, check Lands End, I was just able to book a room for Friday night (18 March). So it may not hurt to see what is opening up.

Gonna try and make it....a place to stay is the only issue at the moment but I have slept many nights in the Tahoe so that will be my backup.

Are we all trying to meet up before hand or the morning of?
My intention is to pre fish Friday.

Gonna try and get the day off. If I can I will be able to fish after lunch.

I'm planning on a Friday pre-fish as well. Would you be willing a school a newb such as myself a little?

By no means can I school anyone on Homer Winter kings specifically but I'm sure we can all work together and figure out a productive game plan.
At the least a few of us can fish together at different depths with different lures and see what produces the best.

I saw Rudy's post from late last season on techniques but I wanted to bring it up again....
Is everyone using the standard hoochie behind a dodger or herring/spoon behind a triangle flasher?
Has anyone been successful mooching with whole green/red label herring?

All over Rudy's set ups, that man's got em dialed in!

I'm going to try a few different techniques....Deep Six/Kone Zone flasher/cut plug; banana weight/flasher/Coho Killer; and maybe even try to power mooch if I can find a ball of bait.

Trouble is I'm all research and no application...been studying different techniques from multiple sources, now I have to apply all the "book learning."  :-[

Dear kayaker, Since this is my first time for this activity (3/19/16) do I need to record with my GoPro what I am catching?

I had really good intentions to fish the brads bait cut plug with various scents this last year... and then DIDNT when I got on the water as I went with what I used before.   I am really curious to see how they work out if you do use them - I have caught silvers on the smaller size, but have not fished the big 3-4" size yet for any kings.    If you use the plugs please let us know how they work out.

Whoops, I meant cut plug herring, I forgot about the Brad's cut plugs...I've definitely been wanting to try them out.

Anyone have a few hooligan they'd like to get rid of? Brad's recommends packing tuna into the plug body, but I think hooligan may "match the hatch" a little better.

Has anyone tried vertical jigging for kings?  I'm looking for non-trolling options while my shoulder is on the mend and I'm in a paddle kayak.

I think it can be done especially near the spit. my last king came when I cranked up the downrigger ball from 80 to 40 ft while gliding. when I cranked the reel the fish was on.

I'm thinking the only downside would be you might hook more pollock with a relatively static bait. you cover less water but if they are conctrated, it may prove successful.

I'd probably mooch a whole herring if I tried it vs jigging a vertical spoon but both have a shot I think.

I have also been meaning to try sand lance jigs out - bought some last year, got one takedown off whiskey gulch with a steely gray one that felt pretty darn salmon-y, and then misplaced them in my tackle chaos for a while.   Still on my list - especially once we start seeing some sand lance in the fish again.

I do a lot of vertical jigging. During the Winter King Derby I picked up one king and 3 halibut on a jig.
