I'm not normally a superstitious person, but I'm convinced that if I fish and don't enter the derby, I'll catch a king. If I do enter the derby, my king-less streak will continue. Damned if I do, damned if I don't ;)
Ditto.

awesome!  Thanks. It's my favorite seeker so if I can't do it easily, I will. I have a hard time changing my own oil in a car. Lol.

No love from the kings.  Managed one halibut...and a dozen cod and sculpins.  Great to see ya out there!

Just enough fish to give us a decent shot with a few rods out.  Keep in mind that I know great charters that get skunked with 4 to 6 dos out.  I think if we can manage 3 or 4 fish for 10 anglers, we will be doing well.  But why sell for "well" when AWESOME is a possibility!!!!!

How deep are you guys getting your Halibitties? I'm fishing sat for the Kings, but would definitely like to bring home a couple halibut fillets.

Plenty of places for that in the nice little drinking town with a fishing problem. But yeah, we need to get together to talk strategy.

I've caught them from 130 to 220, right in front of the condos. They aren't that hard to find, and once you find them, stay on 'em.

Not sure where I will be Friday night but definitely post here if we meet up somewhere.

As far as the halibut goes, the one I kept was definitely slightly chalky.  Also the meat was super thin and one of the four fillets had more worms than I've seen in a halibut.  The other fillets looked fine.  Chalky but not mushy.  I think I will stick to kings till May.

Looks like we will have a few folks out there!  That is awesome!  Let's do this!!!

Well, I bit the bullet.  Decided I needed some motivation to fish hard for 7 hours.  I'll be driving down from Soldotna on Saturday morning, so no Friday night festivities for me.

I'm having a hard time trying to picture so many boats and people going in and out from the port.  I know a lot of participants are probably coming from Seldovia/Kodiak/Elsewhere, but the majority have to be going in and out through the Homer harbor.  How early do I need to show up to find a place to park and launch from?

If I can get my low-light visibility rigging done on Friday, I'll plan on getting on the water to start looking for fish early.  I'm imagining a power boat version of a rally race start at the end of the spit, that I need to stay well clear of.  Am I imagining correctly?  If so, I'll probably launch further up the spit so I have less concentrated power boats to contend with before lines-in time.

You bring up a good point.

It will be a total ZOO at the harbor entrance.  Not so much where we fish.  Though I think it will be important to have a bunch of kayaks ready to go and maybe even out on the water early so that all the powerboats who are going to the bluffs don't rip right through there.  We fish on the opposite side of the harbor entrance.  Go all the way to Lands end hotel, enter the parking lot and head toward the condos.  We launch between the Hotel and condos

Really no sense to launch further up, you will end up launching in shallower waters with less fish and shallow means more surf action.

With lines in at 9am, most boats will be out of the harbor by 8am...only the late stragglers will interfere with us since we literally fish 50ft from where we launch.

Glad to hear you a re going to give it a go.  Any kayaker will be lucky to catch a fish.  But in order to give the kayakers as a team the most chance, it will be about getting as many lines in the water as possible.
