The forecasts seem somewhat favorable for this weekend and I got the okay from my wife to get out and go fishing.  I am new to fishing in these areas but have fished on the ocean a few times while living in California.  I have immersion gear (dry top w/ waders+ a solid PFD as well as a wetsuit it is not too hot outside) a VHF radio and have practiced re-entry.  I would love to scout out a few areas for the ORC but would not mind fishing Pacific City or other areas people suggest.  I am wanting to hook into some lingcod and rockfish and enjoy my time out on the water.  Anyways, MagicSeaweed has the forecast at Depoe Bay 1-3 ft swells with light morning winds (2-3 mph) and Pacific City is the same but a little bit windier.  The mornings looked most favorable and I would like to get on the water early and off early afternoon.  Does a salt trip interest anyone? I would rather not go alone on salt and am willing to fish at locations others are interested in.  If the weather turns sour I may hit up some lakes for some trout.

Any tips would be great!  I have an Ocean Kayak Big Game.  I will be using a medium action 9 ft rod with 20-25 lb test and was thinking of using 5" big hammers or lancers with a few shrimp flies stacked above.  Does this sound appropriate for these areas or are there certain jigs/colors that are more popular to match the bait source?

Thanks in advance!  Anyone is welcome to join

I am glad people are going to Depoe Bay as well.  This looks like it could be a great weekend of fishing!  Keep me posted on when and where you are meeting at Depoe Bay.  Are any other NWKA members going?

right now I am deciding between depoe bay and pacific city but am open to either.  I am hoping the forecast stays the same and both can be options.

I'm looking at Thursday or Friday at Pacific City.  Friday looks to be the best, but Thursday also looks good, provided the secondary swell doesn't get any bigger.  Friday looks flat all day.

I wish I could make it out there on a weekday.  Unfortunately, my M-F work schedule limits me to weekend trips. Please post a report Cosmo, I would love to hear how you did!

I am planning on going to PC Thursday or Friday, whichever day looks the best as it gets closer.  Right now I am leaning to Friday.
The two best times to fish is when it’s raining and when it ain’t. -Patrick McManus

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

I was totally leaning towards making my first trip to Pacific City on Saturday.  However, I have never been to Depoe Bay either.  Do you guys mind if I join in at Depoe Bay on Saturday?  What time are you guys planning on launching and where do you guys meet?

Just ordered my new dry top it will be here on Thursday!  I am excited to switch from full wetsuit to a wader dry top combo.  In the next few months I hope to upgrade and get some pants to match the top

Be warned that Saturday is getting a little funky. The wind is kicking up and you have swells coming in multiple direction. Combine those factors together and you may see some conditions that are washing machine like. Make sure you take those seasickness meds!

I will definitely be brining the Dramamine and ginger chews as well as ginger soda lol.  I hope to have fun and if I catch a fish it will be a bonus.  this is my first trip to depoe bay and I am excited to learn the area for the ORC.
