You don't need a GPS for fishing pacific city.  You don't need a lot of stuff that I see recommended on this site all the time.  The main thing you need is experience in self rescue (getting your ass back on the kayak).One item that I don't see recommended that really should be on anyone's kayak that is out there alone is a spare paddle.  Besides that, a whistle and proper flotation, nothing else is a necessity for a quick jump out to the rock for a few Blacks.  Obviously your kit needs to grow the further out you paddle, but people can get out there and get some fish in the yak without being $3000 into an outfit.  And these shorebreak waves can turn you out of your kayak,but if everything is stowed who cares?
 

Well said! I do have a spare paddle with me at all times. Will you be at PC tomorrow morning? I'm thinking I'll make the drive. Forecast looks decent
