Holy shit, this crap again!?!? How many different ways in this thread does it need to be said?!  :laughing7: :laughing7: :laughing7:

I guess it has been a while since we've gone over this but it does not change from year to year...   ::)

To put this in its most simple form, on an all depth weekend you may pick only one combo to have on your kayak for the day:
 - Halibut + salmon
 - Rockfish, lings, greenling + barbed hooks
 - Rockfish, lings, greenling + salmon + barbless hooks

Keep in mind:
"It is unlawful to fish for or take and retain any species while possessing onboard any species not allowed to be taken
in that area at the time. "
That means you can't keep them on a stringer, that would be retaining a species. Plus no one should be dragging fish in the water anyway - you're in a kayak FFS!!   :police:

Well by golly Jeff, maybe you should write the regs!

I never have trouble reading the regulations.  But I work on two Planning and Zoning Commissions, and obscure and convoluted wording no longer fools me.   ;D
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Far too many salmon would die if I wrote the regs. ;D

THIS.
The more you expose yourself to the language, the easier it becomes to understand.  There are reasons behind every word they use.

I am looking forward to hittingthe salt and will be there Thursday.  This time last year people were doing well crabbing.  I am going to purchase a folding crab pot.  I have hard that the south side of the rock is productive.  Is it anywhere on the south side (Obviously wehre there is sand)?  Should i look for a certain depth when dropping my pots?

Thanks for all of the help!

I have done well south of the rock.  I'm guessing it is about a half mile south and if I remember right it is about 60 ft deep there.  Often the dory boats put pots in the same area, so you might see other buoys in the area.

Thank you for the info!  I will keep an eye out for the dory buoys.

Zach, I have frozen rockfish and chicken to spare if you want some and I might bring a trap or two if I got help to hold position while sorting crabs.... reciprocal of course I'll keep you from drifting while sorting.

Zach,

Nobaddays is spot on.  a quarter to half a mile south of the rock is relatively flat, not sure if its all sand, but that's where I put my pots.  In between the rock and shore, 50-60ft.  Make sure you have at least 75 ft of line. You won't need additional weight on the trap.  Any fish carcass except Ling cod and Cabazon cod work.

I've learned the hard way to make sure you line is untangled, and your trap baited up and ready to go, while on shore.  If not, it's a good way to waste a bunch of time untangling, setting up and baiting while on the water.  Also a good way to get seasick, looking down an focusing on untangling a bunch of knots.  if you coil up you line and buoy inside of the trap, and run an bungee around it, it will stay untangled when you get out there.

I wish I could get out there Thursday, but I will be in the Bay Area for meetings.  Little Cos and I will most likely be out at PC or Depoe Bay on Sunday.

I am not sure anyone will volunteer to help you sort out your crab problems.

I got the posts mixed up in my mind and thought he was offering to help hold somebody's feet while they dove the dumpster at the fish cleaning station for carcasses.

Personally, I would decline to participate in any capacity.
