After a day of fishing and cleaning the fish, I will throw a couple of rock fish into zip lock bags, individually so they can right into the trap bait holders.  One tip I learned was to cut off the dorsal spines with kitchen sheers, so they don't poke me, or poke through the zip lock bag and stink up the freezer.  I also break the spine and roll the fish up into a ball so they slide right into the bait holder in the trap.

Thanks mojo for offering some extra bait. I may take you up on that offer. We can chat on Thursday but I would not mind helping you stay balanced if you are bringing pots. I plan on fishing until I limit or get too tired and then pick up the crab pots.

Thanks for the tip Cosmo

Sounds like a plan I think I'm going to pass on targeting Hali and just have some fun chasing rocks and lings, no balance issues on this end I have pulled many crab traps lots with little success but plenty.

No halibut, check.  So is this just a vertical jigging game or should I bring other assorted tackle for drifting, etc?  I'm not planning to bother with crabs myself but I can lend a hand anywhere.  Also... Do we just drive out on the beach and park or how does that part of the logistics work?  Not keen on letting my car wash into the sea. ;)
Kayaking without wearing a PFD is like drunk driving.  You can get away with it for a while, but eventually someone dies.

I'm at a big 99% now of going. I'll be there by 6am.

If you have 4wd, or at least big tires you can drive out on the sand easy enough.  Go down the ramp on the north west end of the parking lot and continue north up the beach toward the sand hill. Stop before you go past the sign that says "Motor Vehicles Prohibited Beyond This Point".

It may be wise to print out piece of paper to put in your window indicating this is a kayak launch/recovery vehicle so you don't get a ticket. Sometimes they can confuse us with normal tourists that are not supposed to park to the north of the ramp.

I try to park way up in the high tide line to give the dory guys plenty of room to maneuver their trailers around.

I will be making it aswell. I picked up two crab traps at fishermans marine. They are having a sale. $15 for a folding trap. I picked up rope for 10 and tied my own harnesses. Great deal- total spent was 50 for two pots.

unfortunately I think I am going to have to pass on halibut.  Hoping to get a limit of lings, crabs, and rockfish.

Don't forget your descending devices. If you don't have one, they are easy to build.

If they're still on sale I might have to head over there on Friday and get some.  I picked up some stuff to make a few descending devices.  Went to get another one at Sportsmans and they only had one for $54.  I'll have 4 for under 10 bucks when I'm done.

If anyone has an extra battery for a fishfinder SLA. I would be happy to buy you a six pack for letting me borrow it. I am unable to locate my charger. If not no worries I will go without a FF

Best of luck today to those that decided to head out there. From the webcam the surf looks a bit sportier than the forecast was calling for. It's always hard to tell though from the camera.

I found it a bit "sporting" to start, about 7am.   Hadn't been in the surf in quite awhile,   paid the ticket price with a two quick dumps but then got back on the horse and out I went.  Fairly big NW swell to start but that dampened down after awhile.   SE wind was abit brisk as well.   Kept 6 Blacks and 1 Ling.   C&R'd a really nice, beautiful Cabezon.  Released 1 greenling and a couple of smaller blacks.  There even was a whale cruising around close to the point.   Nice day to get back out on the ocean.

Had a blast launched around 0700 definitely needed to time  it just right, it was sporty, I took 6 blackrock fish to shore as well as 5 crabs. Gave away my catch to a couple of members that came out as I didn't need any fish right now. DAMN WAS IT GOOD TO GET OUT ....... so good I yacked on my yak while sorting crabs. Rolled through the spin cycle in 1.3 ft of water because I wasn't fast enough bailing out... but then again nothing about me is fast anymore. Even though no ling lovin and throwing up ( sorry you were in volume range Zach) It was a great day out. Thanks guys fir showing up and sharing a good day. Ran into  a couple of non members otw and told them to join up here.
