I'm interested... wherever is fine with me too...

Hoodsport was on fire, but I'd love to go somewhere closer even if it was a little slower.

If we don't get any PDXer's ... I have another wild idea.  Launch at Minter into the high water at sunrise and ride the creek out to the Bay.  Leave a car at the Wauna Launch about 3 miles away.  If we can't get back up the creek later in the day when the tide goes out, then we'll paddle to Wauna and shuttle back.  That being said, I'm pretty sure we could slog our way up the middle of the creek at low water if needed ...

I'd love to join you but between spending last weekend in far Eastern Oregon (think 6.5 hour drive each way) and having the two boys in tow this weekend, I'm going to have to pass.  Make sure to post lots of pics!

Guys, not from PDX here but SFO!
Are there bank spots near the places you're thinking of going, and will they be wall to wall with other bankers?
I don't have a yak with me but would like to at least meet up with some of you.
I didn't even bring a pfd or any other kayak gear, but I did schlep waders & some fishing gear up here & it's GONNA get used!
Also, pls let me know of any other chum tips. Just bright & annoying artificials (I think I only brought pink & red stuff) or is bait/float the way to go from the shore?

Thanks
aaron

Polepole, I've never been to Minter, but how about this idea, stolen from gamefishin.com

"I have not actually done this, so what follows is theory only. Launch a couple hours before low tide. Motor over to the area and beach boat along the spit that forms Minter Bay (I have done this before). Then walk over to the creek (that is now emptying into Henderson Bay). I would think you would have super fishing in this outer portion of the creek with no crowds. This would work for low tide only, as the shallow Minter Bay floods probably 1/2 way into the high tide."

Matt,

This weekend has very high highs and high lows during the day.  "Motor over" implies a 3 mile paddle from Wauna.  I don't know of a closer launch other that launching into the creek at the hatchery bridge as I was suggesting.  I really think we can make that work.

Your right PolePole, it is cold season after all. I'd be tempted to do the same, but my boss is actually in town this week.

Hmm, gas is almost cheap enough.  Keep me abreast of any plans and I'll see if I can make it.  Otherwise, I may stay local for some sturgeon.

Brian

Brian-

Let me know if you are going up for this. The 4 runner is in the shop at the moment, but if I can put my boat on your car, I'll split gas with you. I've never chummed, but I'd like to give it a whirl!

I need to check my work schedule, but I think I'm off Sunday & Monday....Also need to run it by the GF.

If you don't go up for this, let's do some sturgeon here in pdx.

Jason,

I still haven't decided on my plans yet as I haven't run this by my wife yet.  I guess some of the decision might be made by the rain fall.  I don't know how all this extra water will effect strugeon on the Willamette in the short term, but long term it should get things going.

I think the group plan is for Saturday the 15th, but I might be able to do a Sunday instead.

I also don't have a real rack on my truck.  So if you're comfortable with pads and straps we can put your kayak on top and I'll throw my little Caper in the back.

Anyone know how this rain might effect the chum fishing for us?  Is there a chance the rivers might get blown out?

Brian

The areas we are talking about do NOT get blown out.  Minter and Oakland Bay (Johns Creek) are small creek, muddy tidewater fisheries. In Oakland Bay we can also fish the salt proper.   Hoodsport is in the salt.

BTW, Minter has a 4 fish limit in the creek itself, 2 in the salt outside the creek.  Sure wish this park was open ... http://www.wildliferecreation.org/wwrp-projects/projects/Minter_Creek_Phase_1.  I don't know that is is NOT there, but I can't find any more info on it other than that link.  I sent an email asking for more info.
