I wouldn't have minded keeping it as well, but there seemed to be more of an urge to trim the species list down to 10 groups and halibut seemed like the least likely to ever be filled.

I think actually catching a halibut off the Oregon coast in your kayak will be it's own reward.

Hola fellow piscadores -
I've been gone for awhile, so I've been out of the loop. Imagine my pleasant surprise to discover AOTY includes mine own great state of Alaska this year. You guys are so awesome!   :notworthy:  Now, prepare to be beaten like egg sucking dogs. As soon as I dig my kayak out from under the snow. I didn't say it was a good plan...just a plan. The Homer winter King derby is soon - maybe I can get one of the charter boats to tow me out. Brrrrr.

Excellent Jim.  Can't wait to see what Alaska can put up on the board.  Are the larger cold water fish (lings, salmon, etc) enough to compensate for a lack of warm water fish (bass, panfish)?  Should be interesting.

Good to see you coming out of hibernation!

Just remember that AOTY fish need to be unassisted as in no boats getting you there. ;)

Rule #1 from the AOTY rules.

1. All fish entered must be caught from a kayak, without the aid of a powerboat and using methods deemed legal by the state in which they are caught.

I wasn't clear that this meant no "Motherships".  How about using transport to a camp?  Does this extend to ferries?

Not trying to be difficult, just looking for a clarification before anybody makes the mistake.

Transport to a camp can be done with a car, so doing with a boat isn't really that much different to me.  Sure there are some camping sites that are not accessible by car, but as long as you're pushing off from shore in your kayak I'm happy.

However, if you're fishing 12 miles from shore and you need to use a powerboat to get out there, you're obviously using the aid of a powerboat to catch your fish.

Ya me and noggin yakker were wondering about that the other day...because we were thinking of doing something like going camping in some inaccessible spots by land...and just using his little power boat to run all the gear to the campsite...

we thought it would be the same as driving you car to a launch spot

What's wrong with using your kayaks to transport your gear?  You'd be surprised how much stuff you can stuff in your hull.

well nothing is planned yet so i am just coming up with scenarios that could be happening at some point...

say it was 5 miles to a campsite by water...and you are staying for the weekend...you may be able to get to the campsite with only kayaks...but i always wonder what you do if somebody gets hurt or sick while your there?
just kinda nice to have a quick evacuation plan...but that's just my thoughts

this may never happen he just mentioned something to the effect last time we went fishing...and we both kinda sat there and thought i wonder if that would be legal...we both thought the same thing...how much different is it then driving to your locations...

and to Yarjammer  nothing is planned yet but i can almost guarantee you that we will here sometime over the summer...i mean he is building a house over there

It's not any different than backpacking 5 miles into the woods, is it?
