We (yaknitup, AMB, Cephalopodan, and myself) met up on the beach in PC a little after 7am and were greeted by a beautiful and calm ocean.  We slipped out through the waves and spent a few hours prospecting on our own, all finding some fish, latter in the day we came together and had a good bite going over some tasty structure. Yaknitup had a nice "red one" we were unsure of its ID so we released it, after double checking my fish ID book I am almost positive it was a Vermilion?.  My personal bag (pic below) consisted of (2) lings 29.5 and 31.5,  (1) Cab 22.5 and 5 black rockfish.  The black rocks were very cooperative and I released a bunch, also had 3 underlings as CBY calls them. The weather, ocean conditions and company were first rate! Congrats to Cephalopodan for a stellar performance on his first trip in the Pacific salt. Also a big thumbs up to AMB for getting his first ling under his belt!

Very nicely done you guys, congrats. What was the forecast for the seas and how did it compare to what you saw today? It looked pretty glassy.

Nice job! The water looks like a lake!
I was wondering about that orange fish too.    I found a cool link from NCKA that shows the diffs between them.  I'm going to make a laminate of it to have on the water with me.
How deep were ya fishing for the Lings?

Here is the link for the orange fish.

Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day! I wish the wind would have held back for a couple more hours, but we got some great fishing in today! Launched at around 8 to 8:30 to very friendly surf. Water was pretty flat, sky was clear, little to no wind for a good chunk of the morning. We were kind of spread out at first, trying spots here and there, but eventually we all started doing well when we moved close to pelagicpaddler, that guy has great mojo!  :D For about an hour or two, the bight was ON! I was getting plenty of hits with a large white grub - seemed as soon as I got it to the bottom something was messing with it. I started off by getting a nice big fat red rockfish(couldn't recall what kind it was so I threw it back to be safe). It was a good 20" and pretty thick. Picked up a few baby lings and couple of small blacks. The wind picked up a bit and we were in a nice drift south when I pulled up a 30.5" ling! Whoo Hoo!! After that I picked up a nice fat black and by then the wind had picked up quite a bit and it was time to go in.
Seemed like everyone took home plenty of meat today. I had a great time meeting everyone and hope to do it again real soon!

Just moved my post over from the other thread.

The forecast was pretty much right on. Waves were small, it was sunny, not a whole lot of wind.

for the lings and the rocks, our depth varied from aroud 70' to about 90'. We found a nice drift over some structure.

Congrats to all, the weater was as good as it was supposed to be for a change.  I put in at seal rock, took a limit of black rocks(no lings though).  Still not too bad for the first time out in a yak.

Yeah, the first "red" was probably a verillion. I stopped by the tackle shop and saw the pics there. The second one though, still not sure.

from the reports we have in so far, it seems like PP has the top hawg of the day. His ling beat mine by a solid inch! :notworthy:

Just as long as the North coast beats the South coast, that's all that matters!   8)

Wish they had brand names printed on them.    ;D

Very nice guys.  I'm even more jealous now than when you were planning.

As for the mystery red...

That's a Yelloweye, I hope you released it.  The white stripes on it fade a bit as they get larger.
