Oregon Rockfish Classic 2009 Roll Call

I know I'm a newb.  So count me as one.

BTW:  I plan on making my newb work their @$$ off.   Evil  I tend to be the run and gun type till I find the honey hole and the playing field is huge at Depoe.

Spot... just to be clear.. I don't think your newb is intended to work for you as your personal rod caddy.

Spot:  What's the lie like on this next hole?

Newb:  The fish finder is reading about 75 ft deep, with a 30% grade slope towards shore.  Would you like your 15-30 ugly stick?

You forgot the part where I put my 2nd largest fish on the newb's stringer and send him in to queue the heralds.

I've added a "Newbie/Salt" column to the roll call at the beginning of this thread.  I entered what I believe are the obvious newbies and salts.  If you wish to be classified as either, make your case here.

Think I'm going to have to respectfully bow out of this one. I think I'll have enough to keep me busy trying to catch a decent fish myself.

I was thinking about this last week (long road trip, good for the thinkin ) and is it just me, or does anyone else see some potential for hurt feelings/awkwardness with the Newbie Salt challenge ?..  The best part of yak fishing is that you are the sole captin of your own boat making decisions about where you go or how you choose to fish, while recreateing within our own personal comfort levels.   I would not want a newbie to feel obligated to follow me around only fishing where I fish, paddle at my speed, etc and not have the great day just because they said they would. I also don't want the guilt/worry/obligation  of making sure  "is this person having a good time and enjoying themselves or are the just reliving their own personal version of Captin Ahab goes rockfishing , and are to nice to say anything about it"  If someone wants to shadow me on their own accord and fish around me cool, company is always great.. Rock fish challenged and need a hint on how to rig you gear, just ask.   

I will also happily the fillet the winner(s) fish, and Spots for that matter too

I would still be happy to entertain any "side bets", just not ones that drag in innocent victims 

22 of us on the board and still about 2 1/2 weeks to go.. who else?  we're already way past the number we had last year. let's make it grow even bigger.

Damn I hate it when you make sense.  Makes it even worse when you're nice about it! 

I can't fault your reasoning and if you don't mind, I'll second your generous offer to share my knowlege with anyone who has questions or wants to fish with me.

I'll have to give that side bet offer more consideration.   

Sailfish from NCKA is going to be joining me.  Looks like we'll need a campsite with a tent.  Anyone have an open spot or should I be booking a spot.  Looks like there are still some left in Loops C and up.

And Sailfish had to bail due to work reasons.  ChuckE is likely to take his place.  Any of you Hobie guys gonna hook brother Chuck up with a Hobie?  ChuckE is the uber-frymaster.  I learned the trade from him.  You all are in for a real treat.
