Crikey!  That's a monster!  Nice work. How long is it and where were you fishing (if you don't mind me asking).  Also, what's a PB?

It's amazing how much difference there is in 2 inches of fish... That's a big headed 34 inch Ling there!
See ya on the water..

Nice fishy.  Pops told me he saw you there.  He didn't see you catch that though.  And he only got a small one yesterday.  Have I taught him nothing?  Oh well, him and his buddy are still out there and the weather looks awesome according to the smuggler webcam, so they still have a chance.

Looks like its time for some beer batter.

Some pics from recent ling excursions over the past 2 weeks.  Been doing very well...I'll probably C&R for the time being, because I have plenty to eat.  How's that for braggin!  I have to say, I really *love* cast-and-retrieving for greenling too.  Reminds me of the good old days of bass fishing when I was a kid in the midwest.  Those greenling are really great fighters, and can get pretty big.  Tasty too!

Great pics!   Couple questions for yah..  The bag on the front of your adventure...  I have the same one and have used it for years in the the tank well of my F&D but now I have an adventure and was thinking of putting it up front where you have yours.  How hard/easy is it to get fish in up there?  Is it stable to slide up there and load? Does it ride well/solid?

Actually, this was my first weekend with it on, and I ended up C&R-ing so it didn't get put to use.  I think it's a bit too big to tell you the truth - I'm not hauling in halibut or anything.  But anyway, when I'm fishing I use the hobie sidekick AMAs (outriggers).  Make fun of me if you like...training wheels, water wings, etc. :)  But they *really* make the kayak very stable and allow me to concentrate more on fishing than kayaking (when I'm fishing) and are easily stowable (when I am kayaking).   I love them.  So the long answer is, with them on I can easily access the fish bag, or anything in the hull, because of the stability.  I imagine doing the same without the outriggers might be tricky.

At this point I'm openly admitting that I wish I would have gone with a Hobie.  Pedal drives are so useful for fishing.

I have a Revo and lash a fish bag up front. it is not had to access at all.  The boat is quite stable.  Straddle the boat and slide forward.  Here's the setup:

Sweet setup!  What's on the PVC off to the left?

That is the transducer wand.

Tall, you on an Adventure? if so, i wont make fun of ya for the outriggers. Now if you had 'em on an outback or something, that might be worth a little ribbing... ;)

Dude, did you measure that greenling, what a pig!! we have got into 18-19 inchers here once in a great while. They do fight good, spunky little guys and i expect no less from a tamer cousin of the mighty Lingcod.
See ya on the water..

Yeah, on an adventure.  Zee's old one.  I was noticing some guys do the transducer right in the water.  I am going through the hull.  Is the transducer much more sensitive when it's directly in the water or is there another reason for not going through the hull?

That greenling was 16".  Largest I've caught was a 17" and it was delicious! :)

The transducer idea was for portability, even though i wasn't really planning on getting a new Yak. Turned out to be prophetic because i had two Outbacks crack at the drive well in a year and a half and were replaced under warranty(thank you Hobie), so i would have had to re-puck inside it three times.

I do like the actual temp reading from being directly in the water and i don't have to mess around with putting water in the puck, just slap it in the cup holder and turn it on. I've never used the shoot thru method yet so i can't speak on the sensitivity or clarity of the sonar.

another reason is i was sheepish about doing any drilling and cutting under warranty. and i could mount my pole holder to it.

What i don't like about this setup is it can get in the way at times and i have had fish wrap around the wand on a few occasions. I haven't lost any fish due to this but the first time it happens will have to be on a huge Salmon as my luck goes with these fish.

I'm sure THAT wouldn't happen...   ;)
