right on.  there's been a ton of talk about the Coosa out east.  If you dunno, it was designed by the guy that was attacked by a goose on video....

LOL I did know that. It's definately set up for sight fishing/standing.

the other reason I know it's from the SE is that the seat is 6" above the deck....so your blue jeans/cowboy boots don't get wet.

It has a few inches of bow rocker, which leads me to believe it would handle class 2 ww ok, but I would put a lower CG seat in it.

I might take it out tomorrow and will give a better description then.

That seat was definitely a turn off for me, and figured it's doing some serious center of gravity damage. but, you know, "its soo comfortable..."

I would prolly put a typical foam seat in the place of the one provided.

Looks like a cool kayak with some interesting new concepts.
One thing I noted is that the tank well has no scuppers, so anything that is back there could sit in water if a wave or rain hits it.

If any of you have had the opportunity to watch "Yaknitup" move around on top of his X-Factor, this Drew Gregory has nothing on him!   ;D

no one has yet designed the perfect SOT for fishing the North Pacific. Everything is geared around warm water bass fishing for the most part, or fly fishing trout....most everything is for still water though. Lots of stuff works totally fine, but it's mostly by chance or adaptation by locals.

unfortunately, warm water bass fishing is where the money is at.

If we keep growing in numbers like we are out here, eventually someone will make a boat just for us.

took it out for a quick spin this morning and was pleasantly surprised. It paddled alot like a WW boat. Every stroke sent me turning and I had to adjust to more of a WW paddling style to keep it from yawing from back and forth.

It was slow, of course, but the bow has good rocker and good volume, and with that responsiveness I really think this might be the perfect moving water/class 2-3 fishing SOT.

I did not find the CG to high when the seat was in the lower position, felt really stable, and had good secondary stability on edge, and actually responded well and quickly to edging.

stable for standing, some pretty cool features available like their anchor deployement/retraction device etc.

I would take this boat steelhead fishing on the clack or sandy any day.

Really? What do you think is missing?

IMO there's many kayaks from different manufacturers that work great for the PNW. Hobie's Addy and Revo, OK's Trident, and Wilderness Systems Tarpon come to mind.

I would have to say based on a lot of personal water time, and yes I am biased, that the Hobie Adventure is about as good as it gets for a NW offshore SOT fishing platform.  I don't fish poison water much, and I bought this yak to do one thing, fish the salt.  It rides great, very much like a SINK in wind waves and decent swells, it feels like you are moving through the water instead of plowing over it.  The  mirage drive, length  and hull shape give you the range and speed needed for distant fishing grounds. I can't think of how I would improve it short of a little more depth in the rear tank well.

I think you got your redneck geography a little mixed up. Cowboy boots are a SW thing. Rednecks in the SE wear Levis and work boots.

Hey can we break this into a seperate thread?

The Tarpon punches through any wind chop until it's ~3ft tall, then it punches one and rides over the next.  Obviously it's great on flatwater, and pretty good in windy conditions though it's tough to keep straight.

I'm considering using it on the nooch on my next trip, it doesn't have any rocker, but it doesn't have a keel either, it's flat, and easy to handle, and less prone to spinning than my inflatable it.

And yeah, we ain't no cowboys bucko.  Once removed from more pleasant weather, I changed my outfit from workboots to gore-tex hiking boots and Levis.   >:D

so when a redneck in the SE dresses up for church, they don't where fancy boots? cuz that's what I've seen. An yes, you are right, I was trying to lump all geographic rednecks into the same category. including me, although I prefer the term cosmic cowboy.

I think the hobie boats are pretty close to perfect. I like the tarpons alot too, but there is no upsweep in the bow, nor enough volume to keep me from pearling on the smallest break.

If you ever want to risk giving an Adventure a test run let me know.  ;D
