I am waiting for ling opening to see how this guy works out .....

Should add lots of sound and motion as it stands on and lays down. Probably going to loose a few but they only cost a few bucks to make.

I build these but use stainless chain. I use a smaller thinner gauge.   It doesn't corrode, its much louder, and its shiny, but does cost more per foot.  Best sizes for me has been 6 and 8oz. The 8oz is about a foot of chain which I double over to make the two 6" "arms".   I have had the best luck by attaching the hook on a short dropper (1/3 the length of the chain) from the top where you connect your main line.  Hook doesn't snag as much rigged that way.  You can also thread a large hoochi over the top of the chain to add color plus extra motion.  These work, but not any more dramatically than a traditional scampi.

the one on the far left is all I fish for lings (switch to rootbeer for cabbies) with some customizing of course 8)

me too. I like lime green 8"

I use the same size plastic, but seem to get rockfish with 3oz heads and lings with bigger heads. 4oz head w/ 8" lime green plastic for me catches big lings, 4oz w/ 8" rootbeer plastic catches rockfish for me. I seem to catch cabbies only on the berkely gulp satwater prawn in pink.

I always thought this would be fun to play around with      http://www.barlowstackle.com/make-your-own-plastic-worms.htm

A while back thought about making my own plastics but realized I already don't have enough time for all the other things I like to  do. As I was looking into this, I bought a DVD that goes through all the steps for making just about any mold and plastic bait you'd like to make.

If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to trade the DVD for something useful...

I'll trade you some home made plastics (once I make them) for the DVD.

FG & PPaddler's chain rigs (very cool BTW) remind me of an MBF that popped up every now again back in NorCal. It was rockfishing and you had to custom make all lures only from random garage junk. I remember one winner who used a crescent wrench. Very fun!

Seattle Marine Supply has become one of my favorite stores!

That place is full of great stuff at really good prices. Selection isn't huge but what they have works!

Something about commercial gear that gets the mind churning.

We'll see how ling like the banging and clanging of the chain jig. Those weighs about 10 oz each

You could probably use the AOTY site to post your fish for an event like this and I could just make a special page for the results.   You wouldn't even have to be paid up for AOTY to participate.

LOVE IT!!

Lets wait till Ling season opens on the Wa coast. I think it is April.

What would the parameters be?
- Only thing from a tackle shop allowed is the hook and connectors
- no bait or sents
- any fish pictures need to show picture of the jig

This means that no plastic tails - no bucktails - no store bought fly tying gear - no traditional fishing leads - Banana peels OK .....
