Let's put this to bed.

The alternate venue will be Yaquina Bay.

For safety's sake: If we go with the alternate venue, we'll limit the hours of competition to the incoming tide between 9:00AM and 4:00PM.  This area should be fishable up to about 15' (depending on wind and swell direction).  I checked the finger jetties out after the 2009 event and it was definitely fishable.

If conditions aren't contestable at either venue, we'll re-schedule for another date.

Final call will be at the discretion of NWKA mods/admins/overlord.

So it is written.  So it will be.

Now, back to talking about how friggin awesome Depoe Bay is going to be!!!

I think they were suggesting pizza for Friday, and fish for Saturday.

I could be wrong though.

Nah, a lot of people were talking about not wanting to cook after the tourny and doing pizza instead in the other thread.

I'll go with whatever you guys want to do, but I kind of like a potluck/fishfry for Saturday night.

How about a vote thread?

It'd be nice to lock in on this, so those folks that have anything to do with the fish fry can plan accordingly, or not.

BTW, would this "Pizza and Beer" be provided via entry fee proceeds, or at an additional cost to participate in?

I think we'll be able to provide a Pizza and Beer night one of the nights.   8)

I am all for beer and fish fry on Saturday. The exhausting work is getting the fish off the bone and I will bang out most of that  ;D
Fire up the frier and crack me a beer!
BTW ... rumor has it a halibut fillet video may make an appearance soon. Not the best tutorial but we were trying to impress some red necks that were hacking up their fish.

FYI- the place with the best pizza closest to the campground is Humble Pie pizza in LC. Dude used to be the pastry chef at Salishan, his crust is killer. Rogue's beer crust on the Bayfront in Newport is damn good too, but that's a long haul from Chinook Bend. Honorable mention goes to Tide Pool pub in DB, their pie is good in a pinch.

I really enjoyed last years fish fry, but I know it's a big production. I would be happy either way.

I like the fish fry on Saturday, like in all years past. I will cook up another batch of clam chowder to add to the menu!

If the weather doesn't cooperate, the weather doesn't cooperate.  If it's clear that we won't be able to get out on the water (30 knots and 15ft swells), I think we should just call it off and re-schedule for later in the summer.  Our sponsors would want the prizes going towards something meaningful rather than hacking together something 2nd rate at the last moment.  And I think we would want to maintain something meaningful too.

So what happens if we reschedule? Do we lose our deposits for Chinook Bend?

-Allen

That is pretty much what I was figuring regarding the sponsors.  I'd feel the same way if I donated a big prize.

Yaquina Bay Rockfish and Perch as a back up sounds like a good backup venue.
Biggest fish outta the Siletz (no species requirements), I don't particularly care for, as there are several large species that could be caught and not everyone would have proper tags or gear to target them.

If the back up option is blown out too, but the river is still safe we could do as Pole' Pole' mentioned and cancel the tourney and reschedule.  Then just have a group party to utilize our reservations and food that we prepared.  While we are hanging around camp, we could do a group paddle up or down the river, and maybe so some scenario based rescue practicing.

Is anyone arriving on Thursday or planning on being there early on Friday?  I'll be heading down Thursday afternoon and I'm considering hitting the water (fresh or salt) on Friday.

I'd like to get there early Friday, but that might be iffy with the entourage.
